Soundtrack Is One Of The Best!Hey, I have the Beauty and the Beast broadway soundtrack and was extremely impressed. It is one of my favorites because that w/ only the music; one can actually follow the story completely. It also flows together and doesn't make clean cuts between tracks.(Something I hate) I thought this was one of the best soundtracks made from a broadway show, and I have many. Did others like it? Mixed reveiws? Mistakes? Pros and Cons?

Thank you.
It grew on me. I grew up on the movie, so there was a detaching process. Susan Egan took a little getting used to, and I wasn't fond of the Beast. He had a nice voice but he reminded me too much of Colehouse from Ragtime.
But, other than that, I like it. Pick up the London Cast recording if you can. Just to compare and contrast. (Beast is better...

I like the Beast and Gaston from it. (Off topic, but has anyone noticed that Gaston's voice in that recording has a slight cow-like quality? Not in a bad way, but, it's there, especially on his "ee" vowels). Susan Egen's good for the most part (except for her higher stuff), and has good emotion. Overall, I love it.

For me, the London recording is great! I need to get the Broadway one though... Hopefully Belle will be a bit better!

This is gonna sond REALLY stupid coming from the writer of this thread, but is this Susan Egen the person who played Belle? If it is, I absolutely LOVE her voice. It is similar to my voice so I think that's why I love it so much. Also, can you find he londan recordings at bookstores, I've looked and can't seem to find. Ohh well, there's always online shopping. (Ugh )
I also love the lyrics. My relative who usually isn't the musical type laughed ntil he cried when Gaston sang his song.
"We would make a perfect pair, rather like my theighs!" - He he... love that one!

Yes. Susan Egan was Belle.

I like the Beast's singing voice (especially in If I Can't Love Her) but he's way too cheesy and over-the-top when he speaks.

I don't like Susan Egan that much, I think it's mostly because she sounds so much like the movie Belle. She is very, very extremely talented, but I just wanted something new and fresh, as opposed to hearing the movie again.

However when Beauty and the Beast made its debut I think many theatre goers were expecting similiarities to the movie. Susan Egan clearly achieved this in her vocal sound. Many women I've heard sing the role after have that certain "Belle" quality to them because audiences expect it after the original and by original I mean the animated film.

I really like Susan Egan, I think she's my all time favorite Belle. What I love about her is not only her powerful voice, but the way she decided to play Belle as a real character and not as the hammy, cheesy, cartoony mess many actresses go with when they get the part. There is a video of her on youtube and on her website singing Home and No Matter What and her acting is really amazing. You can't beat the original recipe as far as I'm concerned .
