Sound system recommendations

My school is going to try to get new sound equipment for our stage/gym. It's a bit overwhelming - all the stuff that's out there - for someone who has minimal knowledge like me. I was wondering if any of you out there had trusted companies you've dealt with. We need some sort of system that will accomodate a handful of body and cordless mic's and not cost the moon. Not too picky. Wink
So if any of you have any words of wisdom for me, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Michelle

Don't buy Mackie. Get a Yamaha console at the least. DON'T buy from Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc... or anywhere that tells you American DJ gear is any good.

Where are you located, maybe I can recommend a shop.

Thanks for responding! I'm in Gallup, NM but Albuquerque is close (well, 132 miles, but out here, that's close)
I'm not sure what they have there, sound system-wise. Phoenix is also an option - lots of folks here go there a lot.
I'm totally at a loss about this and with school starting up again next week, I guess I had better get on it.
Thanks again,
Michelle

Now, most of these shops are in SoCal, but it should get you started. Also look in the yellow pages. You're looking under "audio" or "sound" and the thing you're looking for is PRO AUDIO. Anyone who uses that term is what you need.

If none of that helps, holler back. I know a sound guy. Or six.

I will certainly look into these companies - thank you sooooooo much for your help. It's frustrating when you're the one they look to for "expertise" and I'm just a lowly music teacher with minimal knowledge about such things. I want my kids to be heard, but I really don't know just how to best go about doing that. Smile
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted on what I find out.
