Personally i think this line is there for amusment purposes more than anything else.

The child (Tam) is Chris's son, she loses her virginity to him when she sleeps with him. As others have said Kim is a virgin when she first arrives as she would have not slept with another man due to family honour and tradition before she married and as her arranged marriage with Thuy was already planned it was all pretty certain until the war started.

I think i agree with the above point that the "more or less" is a selling point. Also, who knows what the soldiers could have done when her village was burned down?

For some reason, based on Kim's interactions with the Engineer I just don't get the impression that he's molested her or anything. She just doesn't seem like the resentful victim around him. Also, though he makes reference to how hot the girls he's selling are, he doesn't really imply much personal lust on his part. He's always seemed surprisingly professional for a pimp.
