Sorry, another little quick question...I just have a general question about an audition song- our high school is doing BatB, and just holds one general big audition- i.e. you go there, sing a solo, sing some group songs, and then they cast you according to how you did. I was wondering, because there isn't a specific part audition, would it be better to sing an uptempo song or a ballad? Thanks!
Sorry, this is my second post in a few days.

even though you arent auditioning for a specfic part, sing a song close to the part you would want,
example : belle, ballad
Lefou: uptempo

As a general rule of thumb, I always pick an uptempo, unless they ask for otherwise.
Uptempos show so much more of a person's personality and they are fun to watch for the auditors.
There are uptempos that Belle could sing...even borderline ballads with a driving beat/theme that could be interesting...

If you look hard enough, you can have it both ways. Even as far back as Mozart's operas, there are some great songs with slow lyrical passages for the bulk of the song with some interludes or endings of bright fast-paced music.
Get your ballad and your uptempo in the same piece.

i would suggest singing whatever you can sing best. If you are very lyrical and expressive than go ballad. If you're quick and quirky then go uptempo. I kinda see uptempos as more character pieces and ballads as lead pieces. But that's just me.

I'm assuming auditions were already held. She started this thread in September.

:O I haven't been on here in FOREVER... Nah, auditions haven't happened yet. They're in... two weeks. I'm pretty sure I posted this right after our director announced the musical, probably when I was really excited about it.
I have a song now, though.

What's your song then?

No I see it that way as well!

Mister Snow from Carousel. :3 I generally have more confidence in my acting than my singing ability, and it's a fun song acting-wise... I'm going with what I think I do best, I guess.

Well, I was called back, although I could still not be cast... The director also said that there were quite a few/a lot of people already cast who were not being called back. Well, it shows she was interested, I guess. :3
I found out this week that our choreographer was a dance captain for a Broadway production for BatB- I don't remember if it was the OBC or night. But yeah... That's really cool.
