Song you find yourself humming

What song(s) from RENT do you find yourself humming the most?

I'll Cover You
Will I
AngelicDramaQueen58

Depends on my mood Razz or the day ... Equally? haha I was no help here at all was I?
broadwaybaby246

im constantly humming light my candle
EponineGiry

I have found myself...

drumming Today 4U, and humming
humming Musetta's Waltz or Another Day
singing Out Tonight walking along the street
standing randomly on furniture in public singing/dancing La Vie Boheme.
liz_hearts_acting

*No Day But Today (i was humming this in history until the guy who sat in front of me said "you've been humming that the whole class! what is it?")
*Light My Candle
*La Vie Boheme

Ok, basically every song. i cant list them all Laughing
carethediva

Light My Candle, Another Day, and Out Tonight mostly.
And I have tendencies to sing La Vie Boheme a lot, too.

You do that, too? I thought I was the only one who did that in public!

My favourite song at the moment is Will I?

Andy.
DramaRobin2002

The song I always find myself absently humming or singing under my breath is "Light My Candle". My friends and I have been known to randomly break out into "La Vie Boheme" though. Not so much walking down the street or anything, but before rehearsals or hanging out at the local coffee house.
thebeautyisClara

Oh, wow. A lot of different ones. I was dancing around the kitchen singing Out Tonight the other day, about to go meet my friends for a movie and pizza. Does that count? Wink

lol....I'm always humming Light My Candle, Without You, or I Should Tell You. I'm kinda obsessed with Mimi. (Kinda?! Ok, a lot.)
EponineGiry

Oh, and we watched a biography of Eva Peron in Spanish the other day, and every time they said "Evita" I drummed the beat from Today 4U.
LesWickedPhantom

La Vie Boheme (both) and What You Own
*Dark*Solo*Singer*

Over the moon Razz
musicluvr77

Seasons of Love a lot.

But I'll Cover You is extremely catchy, at least for me. I'll sing it around my house- both parts- after listening to it.
ShadowInTheWings

One Song Glory. Can't get that song out of my head, no matter what I do.
andie

Each and every except "YOUR EYES". BTW, wanted to ask what was Larson's intention making this song so simplistic and cliche?
Lancelot

I hum La Vie Boheme or Today 4U also sometimes Light My Candle they are all so catchy! haha

Well, because its Roger's actual song it kinda gives the idea that Roger isn't this completely fantastic song writer and he's still trying to find his voice through song. You see the same journey with Mark and Maureen. Both are artists but from what you see of Mark's film, his potential hasn't really been tapped, and Maureen's performance art usually gets by on her passion and charisma, not actual talent doing it. At least, that's my theory on it.

I always thought that we kind of look at the whole thing through Mark's eyes and RENT is what his persuit led to. Not that RENT *is* his movie, but the movie should give its viewers the same impression as we get from watching/listening to RENT. I'd like to believe that Mark "found it" in the end.
Ulla Dance Again!

Somehow, "Another Day" always seems to find its way into my head. That or "Light My Candle".

It's funny because I always hum the two parts - it's a habit, I suppose. I just can't hum one person's part, I have to do both.
Lancelot

haha ya I do both of them too hahaha I Just finished watching the movie too I LOVE THAT MOVIE! haha it is wicked sad though
briggsgirl

i never hum, always sing at the top of my lungs Very Happy

la vie boheme is one of my favorites to sing, especially in a group, although i have yet to do the whole table thing. out tonight is another fun one, especially when i'm alone. well...i pretty much sing every song from the show, except for over the moon.

EDIT: oh wait...my all-time favorite part to sing is the confrontation before goodbye love. ahhh j'adore.
Lancelot

I love the thing before Goodbye Love. But ya I sing them when I am home alone lol
<3Wilson<3

I hum......

I don't really hum the songs....they just play in my mind without me really noticing, it's weird actaully. My mind plays la vive boheme, seasons of love, I'll cover you (my personal fav), and another day.
norayouadora

These songs never leave my head! No, I'm joking, but it seems as though I always have some RENT song stuck in there.

As far as humming goes, the only one I ever really hum is "La Vie Boheme," and that's only when there are lots of other people around. Otherwise, I sing at the top of my lungs! Lol. Some other very common offenders are "Out Tonight" and "Take Me or Leave Me." God knows I love the sad songs, too, but the happy, upbeat ones always end up being the ones I spontaneously start singing. Very Happy

And of course, when I'm listening to my OBCR, I sing along with every song! No stoppin' that. Hehe.

When at work, i find myself doing the "Ohh"s from "Santa Fe" alot.

Also at work, when it's busy and a manager says "We're okay" or something to that affect, i start to hum "We're Okay".

I like to hum the sung parts of "Over The Moon".

"I Should Tell You" is in my head alot - right now, in fact, lol.

"Take Me Or Leave Me" is my favourite song, so...

oooooo man me too...hands down...ill find myself breaking down in Santa Fe...especially the "oooh's"...all the time...even when im listening to other music I'll just start with them

...but of course I'll Cover You and La vie Boheme never hurt to sing out loud either Very Happy [/quote]
theatre4life

hehe, yesterday on my way to work - i walk, since it's close - i found myself randomly humming the "dee dee"s from "On The Street".
sadie1208

seasons of love
renthead29

That's a difficult question considering I'm a major renthead. I can be seen and heard singing any and every song from rent, save Goodbye love and Without you wich i find almost pointless. Otherwise, i think i do the I'll cover you reprise and and la vie boheme quite a bit. maybe one song glory or even the tango maureen or...i'll stop now
norayouadora

renthead29 wrote:

...Come again? Eh?
renthead29

I get the meaning of the song, I just don't understand the length. It's kinda annoying how it just keeps going "Without yooooouuuuu....the grass grows." I know its saying that everything but her goes on without him but does she have to do it in such a long song? And Goodbye love, i can be heard singing it, until you get to the actual mimi singing "goodbye love part." repitition doesn't go well with my soul.
norayouadora

So were you glad that they didn't put "Goodbye Love" in the movie?
renthead29

I would have liked to see how it would have played out visually, but other than that i was fine with it.

If i can input my opinion - i think if they re-release the film ever, they should edit out the part where they're all chatting and laughing in the cemetary - it's too "happy" for after Angel had just died - and just cut from "I can't believe this is... goodbye" and have it go to the loft and the rest of the song then. That's gotta take talent!! lol Just randomly walking around...

"last night, I had a dream...."

That would be pretty rad.
wolfwynd

I hum and sing most of the songs in equal parts actually, although most of the time it's either "Light My Candle" and "La Vie Boheme"
i look attractive greeen

i am always singing on tables to la vie boheme
and i always sing Finale B in moments that are really emotional.
zeppy1223

I like to hum and pretend to drum to Today 4 U.... and randomly break out singing Rent. I drive my mom insane when we go out shopping or anything Wink
<3Wilson<3

Lately I've been singing certain parts of La Vie Boheme around people who don't know theatre or me very well. They end up thinking I'm a lesbian, oh well.
What Is This Feeling?

Oh my God , all of them!!!!! Mostly though: Out Tonight, Another Day, La Vie Boheme, and Seasons of Love.
Luc

"With a thousand sweet kisses....." Oh I don't stop singing it once I've heard it. The Reprise of I'll Cover You is the most addicting song in this world.

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH, LOVER!! I'LL COVER YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

~Curtain~
Gwen

OH!!

Rent

Christmas Bells- "You'll be merry, I'll be merry though merry ain't in my vocabulary.." That actually makes me laugh. Dry sense of humor. I seem to be the only one with this song!

Happy New Year- There's just something about it...maybe all the drama and good music, I don't know. I like singing Roger's part along with it.

Goodbye Love- particularly the confrontation between Mark and Roger
(human emotions. Need I say more.)

If I'm getting the song title right in thinking of the song that I am, I think I also have Finale B.

EDIT: One Song Glory!! I LOVE THAT SONG!!

That part was weird the first time I heard that on the cast recording. but when I read the libretto I understood what it meant. It's a little weird at first though, 'cause you (well at least I) wouldn't call drugs jam...

I eventually figured that out because when I heard "blow," I realized it because I saw that movie in my creative writing class. (Believe it or not.)
Defies_Gravity

Given the fact that I have only watched a small-- and I do mean small-- portion of the movie and have only heard the soundtrack up to "Over the Moon," I don't really know some of the songs you guys are talking about. However, I constantly have stuck in my head:
"Seasons of Love" (which I'm doing with some friends in a talent show),
"Light My Candle",
"Tango:Maureen",
"Over the Moon" (I'm obsessed w/Idina Menzel),
and, most often, "Rent".
Azaelia

1. Seasons of Love.

2. La Vie Boheme - though doing it in public (or when other people are around, period) can be hard, because it's like:

Quote:
Creation, vacation, mucho - mmmm-ation....

Which probably makes it even more obvious. But I'm one of those people who sometimes just starts singing, and doesn't even realize it.

3. No Day But Today.

4. Tango Maureen.
Defies_Gravity

Yeah, I finally got to see the movie, and I found La Vie Boheme rather amusing.
Quote:
Hey, mister, she's my sister

I love Idina Menzel, but Mimi's my favorite character.
Still have "Rent" stuck in my head.

2. Light my Candle

3. La Vie Boheme

Very Happy
_rice_and_beans_

I find myself singing Seasons of Love, Out Tonight and What You Own everyday... on the bus, in my room, in class, during dinner... before going to sleep...
Defies_Gravity

Okay, this is killin' me! Not only do I have various songs stuck in my head, but, I keep mixing various phrases from the various songs. It's like:
"Take me for what I am! Who I was...Would you light my candle?...Let he among us without sin be the first to condemn!...five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes...how we gonna pay, how we gonna pay, how we gonna pay last year's rent!"
And, I mean, exactly like that, sometimes. Urgh!! Brick wall Maybe it's cause I'm ADD. What do you guys think?
theonetowatch

No, I actually do that a lot and I'm not ADD. Sometimes I'll get a mix from a bunch of different shows and...yeah. It can get pretty interesting.

No, here in the RENT forum we discuss songs from RENT. Laughing
snowhite880

Goodbye Love...i LOVE that song...then Your Eyes...and One Song Glory.

I sing Rent songs in my head a lot...not in a psycotic way, but in an obsessed theatre person way.

Well, if you insist...
We were studying the constitution in AP US History, and the teacher says to this girl named Emily: "Emily, if Congress has the power to declare war, what else can they declare?" When Emily says nothing, she says, "What's the opposite of war?" Emily says, "Oh, peace."
Simultaneously (sp?) Me, Huey (the guy who sits to my right) and Selene (the girl who sits to his right), all yelled "WRONG!" The teacher looks at us and says "what?" Selene, Huey, and I look at each other, grinning, and Huey goes:
"The opposite of war isn't peace! It's creation!"
Me and Selene: (laugh) Whoo!
All of us: "La Vie Boheme...Viva! La Vie! Boheme!"
The teacher just looks at us like we're crazy, and then goes back to teaching. There was another moment, but that would take too long to explain.

i have had Seasons of Love and La Vie Boheme stuck in my head for the last few days! eek.

Go for Joanne! Speaking of...
We had our talent show today, (A group of us were singing "Seasons of Love") and I had Joanne's part (ya' know, the one with the really really high note at the end?) Anyway, we started singing, and I was shaking so bad, the mic in my hand started shaking. But I get to the high note part, hit it perfectly...and the crowd goes wild!! I'm not making that up, they did go nuts with applause. We didn't win though. We got HM. (So did everyone else who didn't get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.)

I just noticed...I'm a chorus member, now!! Whoo-hoo!
MELstolethestage®™

I love Joanne... She's such an awesome part!
I have a new favourite Rent song now...
Take Me or Leave Me...
i cant stop singing it!
Defies_Gravity

I just have random bits of random songs. Like, right now, I'm like "I can't control -- DON'T YOU DARE!! -- Creation, vacation...mucho Silenced -- That dog is now in doggy... -- the Pha-a-a-a-tom of the Opera is --"...Okay the last was random, but, not as random as it seems. Here's why...
This week, we're having Thespian Society initiations, and the initiates (which I am one of) have to dress up like different things each day. Today is "Favorite Movie Character". I went with the Phantom, even though technically he's a musical character, they made it into a movie so... anyway...
Tomorrow's favorite character from a play or musical. 3 guesses who I'm going as. (Hint: My username's a clue. My favorite musical character [insert my username here].)

Haha.
A few days ago, me and one of my friends were waiting for our rides after school, and I had La Vie Boheme stuck in my head. We were sitting by these stone picnic tables they have, and I jumped up onto the table, and start going "Dearly beloved, we gather here to say our good-byes..." and my friend started singing with me. It was fun, especially cause we changed some of the wordy-dirds. Haha. Thank god we were the only ones there, except the janitor, who wasn't really paying attention. Laughing
