song to sing for audition?

So we are having auditions for fiddler in two weeks and i plan to try out, only i can't decide what song to sing.

I would say i'm more of an alto but i can hit high notes only it's not very loud.

any recommendations?

I was thinking "defying gravity" from wicked.

p.s. i'm 16 and a girl if that helps.

Don't do anything from Wicked. It's too overdone. Maybe "I Resolve" from She Loves Me, seeing that it's also Bock and Harnick?

What part are you planning to audition for? Because if you are an alto, you may be limited. Hodel and Tzeital both go quite high! Im an alto currently playing Chava

thanks for the help.

Good luck on trying out for chava! Quite a difficult yet rewarding part to play. As for songs - does it have to be something not from fiddler?

thanks.

no it cannot be a fiddler song. It has to be something else as long as it can show off your voice.

Say what? The highest note any female role in "Fiddler" performs is a high E by Hodel.

I know plenty of altos that can't even hit the C above middle C, so for them an E is quite high.

Anyway, a mezzo piece would be the best bet, and something from a traditional sounding show would work best. When I played Chava we had to sing from the show, however for my Tzeitel audition I didn't have any character pieces to use so I just used the last 16 bars of "Home" from BATB. Even though it's a newer show it still uses the traditional Broadway sound.

Break a leg at your audition!
