Song help please.

Hi! I was just wondering if there are any songs in Songs for a new world that wud be good for me to sing. I am a Tenor can belt to a C.

I stayed away from songs for a new world because this girl used to sing songs from it in my master class all the time and i hated her so i didn't sing anything from it.

However now i need to build my repitoir and i seen a boy sing something frm it the other day and it was amazing!

If you have any other ideas of songs i could sing. I particularly like new upcoming unheard of musicals. Like i am singing I could write books from Zanna Don't right now and My unfortunate erection from the 25th annual putnam county spelling bee.
They don't have to be form songs.
I also like really funny songs or character songs like purpose from Avenue Q,.

Any help would be great
Thanks, Craig x

If you can get the music to it, i'd do Santa Fe. Despite what the Rent makes it out to be, it is a very High voice song. uhhh....if you can get something from Into the woods, I'd do Agony, or Hello little . Wait, that might be low...uhmm wow. i love being a bass, but this isn't helping you.

Hmm well as long as your not auditioning with the stuff from Songs (its murder for a lot of accompanists to sight read) I would suggest Flying Home. King of the World might be good as well.

yeah i'm definately not going to audition with it I know exactly what Jason Robert Brown is like to play. I hate it when someone walks into an audition and ass me to play it for them so i would never expect someone else to play it for me, unless i knew that they could play it.

I know! I love it so much! I want to be a. a guy and b. a tenor because I'm so in love with that song. Oh well at least I get "I'm Not Afraid of Anything" and "Flagmaker" *sigh*

I really love this show so dearly and have done just about all of the female songs in it, including the I'd Give It All For You duet and the soprano part in A New World and Hear My Song for various things, except for Just One Step and Surabaya Santa.

Another good male song I love, not from this show, but from A New Brain is I'd Rather Be Sailing. Its actually a male duet but my friend had did an arrangement of it that was solo and it wasn't too difficult to alter. Boys singing that song make my heart melt.

You will probably get more help making your own topic Smile

I don't really think Good Morning Baltimore fits Meers's style of singing, and I believe it is generally considered a no-no to use songs from musicals like Hairspray (I could be wrong though, I'm not pro on these things)...

You shouldn't use musicals that are on Broadway right now or are extremely popular. No Wicked, no Rent (because it's popular), no Hairspray. Sorry.

I agree with the no Wicked, no Rent thing. However, you can do a song from a more recent/popular musical if you pick a more obscure song from that show. Or if you sing from a show that is so new, not a lot of people are out there doing it yet.

Ex: Wicked had JUST come out when I was a senior in college and therefore no one was doing the music yet. On my senior recital, I sang For Good with a close friend from my studio. We were the first to do it at our college, let alone ANY song from Wicked and people loved it.

Now its overdone and I'd never dream of doing it. (its the reason we laughed at our voice teacher when she suggested In His Eyes.)

My sister auditions with Lonely Pew from Reefer Madness for various things. So its from a recent (within the last 5-7 years I believe), Off-Broadway show. However, no one knows it and no one really does it, and casting directors LOVE hearing her do it.

So to make a long story short, you can sing from recent shows (depending on the musical as some shows will always be a no-no) as long as you stick to the rule of picking something obscure (be it the show or the song from the show).
