Song for Mayor Shinn?Does anyone besides me think that Mayor Shinn should have had a song? He's a major part of the story, so why shouldn't he have had a song? What do you guys think?

Absolutly.
***grumble grumble grumble grumble***
I really wish he did. It was sort of frustrating not having the chance for a song my in my senior show. They did give me a line in Wells Fargo though...
Shinn - Or it could be.....
Chorus - Yes it could be yes it could be...
Shinn - Something special...
Chorus - Something very very special now
Shinn - Just for me!
At that point I ripped my hat off and threw out my arms before looking at the crowd and hurrying off stage in embarrassment.
So that made it a little better, but I still wish I could have had a song. Maybe some mock-intimidation villian song towards Hill, or some plotting song with the quartet in the background.
But alas....

no. SHinn is perfect as he is ..a song would ruin his balanced character.

Oh I agree that he's perfect without a song, my comment was just from a personal standpoint saying it would have been nice.
But if he had a song, I probably wouldn't have gotten the role...I'm a much better actor than singer.

So does Mayor Shinn not sing at all, or does he just not have any song to himself?

I'm afraid that typically, there's no singing for the mayor, unless you do it like I mentioned in the above post. I can't really think of any where else for him to sing...
He does have a spoken line in Iowa Stubborn though.

For a twinkling moment there was....Ah, but one of the cut numbers from the show....methinks cut in the early stages on the road....was the Shinn Family Ballet, which also included non-Shinn family members Winthrop and Tommy. The latter tried to enter the balletic piece twice in the number to the anger and fluid rejection of both the Mayor and Eulalie. So, not really a vocal number, but a cryptic dance piece, that was cut for obvious reasons, especially that of adding length to an already-long production.

There is no reason why Shinn can not sing with others in "Columbia, Gem of the Ocean" which opens one of the auditorium scenes.
If Shinn were to have a solo, I would think of it as something like General Bullmoose's "Those Were the Good Old Days" in Li'l Abner.

I'm playing him currently, and I have the "Montgomery Ward sent me a bathtub and a cross-cut saw" line in Wells Fargo Wagon.

I forgot about Colombia. I did sing that one.
