Song Discussion- Losing My Mind & Could I Leave You?Follies is the only "staple" Sondheim show that I haven't explored to the fullest, so I figured now is as good a time as any!These are the first songs I've listened to from the musical...and I really, really love them, for multiple reasons! 
Seriously, who else would think to rhyme "you aside" with "suicide" while keeping it in perfect context of the song...and who but Sondheim can break your heart with a beautiful orchestration punctuated by a brief but emotion filled declaration of love? Tell how you feel about these songs! "Losing My Mind" is one of my favorite torch songs; my only nitpick is how repetitive it is. A few extra verses would only make me love it more.
"How Could I Leave You" is a charmer, but as far as Phyliss's songs go, I much prefer "The Story of Lucy and Jessie". |
