song choice for singing competition for young 11 year old

Ok my child is going to be doing a singing competition where there will many families in the audience as it is at a festival. There will be judge too.

She isn't sure which song she should pick-
Either Journey to the Past- Disney Anastia
Only Hope- Mandy Moore
Mother's Prayer-Celine Dion
On My Own-Les Miserables

Since she is going to be judge she wanted one that would show off her range-which do you feel is the best choice?

Your help is appreciated!!
Ariel

some of these songs seem kind of mature for an 11 year old...
UniquePerspective

On My Own's been WAY too overdone.

And what is her range, exactly?
The Very Angry Woman

Is James Barbour going to be in attendance?
DreamGirl1

James?

Sorry who is James?
PappyCat

I voted.

P.S: Disney didn't do Anastasia.

Yes, you're so right-Disney didn't do Anastia, thanks

My apologies -you are so right Journey to the Past was from Anastia(but it wasn't a disney movie.)

Wow, that is a said story concerning the 15 year old

No thank god James will not be there. It's a shame man take advantage of young girls in that way. I am glad he got charged.

I think that Only Hope and On My Own are songs that seem too old for an 11 year old. Journey to the Past is a great song and will show her inocence as well as range.

I think Journey to the Past is the best pick. It has a good range for singing and it is appropriate for an 11 year old to perform. Smile
Kaiana

Definitely Journey to the Past. Whoever voted On My Own is very silly. Laughing

Yeah, seriously, unless they have some thought-out answer. (Although, I can't think of any...)

Thanks for the replies

I do wish to add that my child voice sounds more mature than most 11 years old- she does have great range too.

She explained to me that she wants to learn a challenging song. She has sang Journey to The Past and does sing it well but doesn't find it difficult anymore. This is why her passion to learn another song.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I understand that a child should sings songs that are appropriate-even when it comes to the lyrics. There aren't many songs out there for preteens. That are both challenging yet age appropriate.

I suggest you have a look at the musical Ruthless - challenging and age appropriate. Your daughter may have a huge range but a) it's not just about that but mainly about the performance of a song and b) you don't want her to harm her voice by singing on her full range constantly at the tender age of 11. Also, children singing songs meant for adult voices can also have the problem of possibly harming a child's voice. There is a reason why And I am telling you or The Wizard and I require the vocal chords of a grown up. Be careful please, I have seen it go wrong too many times...
