Something Just Broke

I bought the ASSASSINS Revival CD about a year ago, but only recently have I started re-examining it, which is why I haven't had much to say about it before now. Anyway, I really don't like the song "Something Just Broke". I understand that Sondheim and Weidman felt that the show needed one more song, and I felt the same way. But I also feel that the "new" song should have been sung by one of the Assassins. Who cares about the bystanders? The show isn't called "BYSTANDERS"; therefore, we shouldn't have to hear what they have to say. How does everyone else feel about SJB?

I think it brings the show closer to home. Especially since the Assassination was in modern history, hence many more people in the audience remember where they were when JFK was shot. It's easier to connect.

It's hard to explain, but you know?
Xack

To me it feels extremely awkward and out of place. It doesn't quite fit with the rest of the musical. I much prefer just going into "Everybody's Got the Right".
Ghost

I don't like it.

It takes the focus off the assassins and stops the dramatic flow of the finale.

It was really put in there to soften the blow of this musical to post-9/11 audience, to my knowledge.

I don't think it really works either.

I must be the only person who likes the inclusion.

And the song was added for the London production, nothing to do with 9/11.

seeing "Something Just Broke" performed in the show's context, its clear that it is needed in the piece. its chilling.
