Someone who's seen Wicked: Question about noise? This may sound silly but are there any really loud noises in this show? My daughter's not good with really loud noises, and for that matter I about jumped out of my seat when a certain cast member in Les Mis was shot. I'm not talking medium size noises like the gunfire in Phantom, just is there anything REALLY loud so we can at least be prepared for it.
Thank you so much!

I don't think there are any real load sounds, but near the end of act1 it can get load.
But you and your daughter should be fine.

From the musical numbers I saw on Jay Leno and the Tonys the show looks awesome! I'm hoping theres still tickets available when my hubby gets off work. It's almost sold out here in Columbus.

I've seen the show twice (once pre-Broadway, once on Broadway last week) and I can't think of anything in the show that would make anyone jump unless they've downed two Vietnamese iced coffees before the show.

Yeah, there are no really loud noises. There are parts where the music/singers get quite loud (End of The Wizard and I, end of Defying Gravity and some bits of No Good Deed) as the woman playing Elphaba has to belt powerfully for those bits and the music gets really dramatic too. But no loud bangs or anything, I don't think.

NEVER SEE THE LION KING!! My mom almost peed her pants when Rafiki sang the first note in the show!! And I certainly jumped when Adult Simba did his riffs during "Endless Night!"
But to stay on topic, the singing does get loud, but it's nothing sudden or abrupt.

I remember that the part with the wizards's head was REALLY loud, I think it was right b4 Defying Gravity. The wizard comes out and speaks, and it was SO loud.

It's very loud in London (it being the newer show - so the technology is probably better).
The head is very, very loud (floor shakes), and the twister sound effect is very loud, too.
Also, Idina Menzel got pretty loud!

Nothing really sudden, but I remember clearly when I saw it for my second time in Providence that some of the sound effects get very loud. Particularly at the end of "As Long As You're Mine" when the entire theatre shakes pretty hard. Of course, I was also sitting in a seat that was pretty much entirely missed by the speakers, so...yeah.

It really depends on the sound system, then. Although it was loud, I don't recall any overload when I saw it on Broadway, and my friend won lotto, so we were in the front row. Overwhelming sound can be more unpredictable on tour because the venues change so often.

Two weeks ago, I got one of those £25 front row tix and I was slightly on the left side of the stage.
Act two opened and the sound was so loud opposite me. Didn't make me jump but I thought that was the kind that would make some people do. I was so close to the large speakers though. Never again would I buy the £25 tix unless of course it's more centre.

That's true, but after a second you should be fine.

Oh wow, yeah, hurry. Otherwise you'd have to buy them through a reseller which can promise better seats but the prices can be pretty high. In Atlanta, I saw someone trying to sell their Dress Circle tickets for $400 each. Ha! I doubt they got buyers at that price for Dress Circle. For that much I'd demand up close Orchestra at least. Heard a rumor that Wicked will have a return engagement in Atlanta but no dates set.
I don't recall the Tour being particularly loud.

^^ but they should be fine for your daughter
where are you seeing it
broadway shouldnt have any problems but tour might be alittle loud or things can go wrong easilly

Yeah, I don't think Wicked's too loud, although I was bit stratled when the music started up at the beginning of the acts and the Wizard head got a bit noisy. But it all has to do with where you're sitting. When I saw Wicked, I was 7th row from the front in a theatre where the sits are surprisingly close together. I was also sitting slightly to the side, almost directly in front of the speakers. That's about it. I don't remember Shoshana Bean getting loud during Defying Gravity, but then again, she always riffed more than she belted that song, at least compared to other Elphies like Julia Murney and SJB. Anyway, I wish you luck in obtaining tickets and a good set of seats for the show.
P.S. You'll both have an amazing time there, guaranteed
I'm just sad that you two couldn't be there when Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty were on; it would have been the most wonderful experience you've ever had, short of seeing Idina Menzel herself perform the role (Alas, that is something I have yet to do ) .

Well are they seeing it on Broadway?
I believe JM and KK are in right now...they're my favorite Elphie/Glinda combo.

Thanks everyone!Got tix for the floor. They got stolen at the zoo,( I forget to take them out of my purse), but since they didnt get the receipt we got new ones issued. Feel sorry for the people who end up buying them and get turned away at the door.
Oh and we are seeing it in Columbus.

I'm sorry about the tickets, I wouldn't know what to do if it were my tickets I'd probally faint and die on the spot.
I'm glad you're still seeing the show and after all this I hope it's great show and you enjoy yourselves.

I was just glad they reissued them to us. I've been attending musicals for 10 years and never had that happen before. Good thing we went through Broadway across America instead of Ticketmaster. They are so nice and we didn't have to argue or anything.

No bangs but as said before, it does get loud.
In the London show, I believe that they have a lot better sound system than Broadway, so London is a LOT louder than Amercia. No offense.
I think all the loud singing makes it better and more tense.

Yes - I recently saw the London show. It depends where you sit...the higher up in the dress circle you are - the loudest it is. If you're at the very back of ht etop, it's VERY loud; the floor shakes, and you can literally feel the bass travel through you - it's almost sensuround. It's much quiter in the stalls...
