some Grease! 2007 questions [with a poll]

First of all, will there be a forum for Grease! again, now that it's being revived?

Does anyone know how they're planning on doing the show this time? Is it gonna be like that god-awful 1994 Revival? (i didnt see, but the soundtrack sucks) Or, with Jim Jacobs involved, will they do it closer to the original version?

Also, i think they need to put back "All Choked Up", 'cos IMO, it's better than "You're The One That I Want". Plus, who wants to go to Broadway and see the movie on stage??

Tough to say. Grease has become a franchise that belongs to Average America even more than to the theatre. The movie is an American classic, and has totally eclipsed the popularity of the musical. And like it or not, America responds better to the caricatured, but essentially harmless, greasers of the movie, then the foul-mouthed, politically incorrect greasers of the musical, who spend long periods of time leering at Annette Funicello's jugs.

Plus, the movie softened the male chauvanism inherent in the play's end, by having both Danny and Sandy undergo changes for each other, instead of just Sandy.

Which way will the revival go? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. As far as which songs? I think it'd be safe to bet on one of the now-ubiquitous Megamixes to end the show. Just like Joseph, High School Musical, and who knows how many others nowadays.

Well, we all know that they're casting the leads in an American Idol-style, and the show is called You're the One that I Want, so it would make little sense to not have that song in there.

well, i thought of that, too - i just figured that they called the show that so that more of america could identify with it. oh well.

I like "All Choked Up" better than "You're the One That I Want." YTOTIW is a 70s song, not a 50s.

When we did Grease, we ended up doing You're the One That I Want instead of All Choked up.... and the song was terrible. We had total potential to perform it well, but the directors attempted to do some weird thing like the movie and ended being really cruddy. I like All Choked Up alot more.

P.S. I'm really excited about the revival grease! My friend angie's aunt is apparently cast as Ms. Lynch!

I'm fairly certain that they are using "You're The One That I Want" in the 2007 revival because its the name of the silly reality show casting the leads in it and America is going to go in expecting to see the movie on stage. David Ian and Jim Jacobs aren't stupid, they are going to play to the masses and give them what they want, which is the movie score everyone is familiar with, to make money off of the show.

they'll probably do YTOTIW, but I like to stick to the original repertoire Sad
