Some good(and easy to follow) books on how to put on show?

First time executive director/manager/producer/whatever for a major big budget show.

How it fell on my lap, I do not know, but here I am hiring a director, a musical director, and a speech coach, but I would like to know what I am to do or what else I need to put on a show.

Please recommend and Thank you in advanced.

I'm so new to this, but this is a great place for ideas.

Well , let me post some questions to get things rolling.

(1) How long does it take to put on a "production". Non-actors, non-professionals. We have 7 weeks. We bought script and we got the rights. What does our schedule look like??

(2) What does the Director do? Everything (so I just leave him alone?) or only direct on the stage?

(3) Who decides costumes, makeup, set, etc? Me? Director? some one else?

(4) Tech, lights, sounds....don't wanna touch that. don't wanna think about that...

(5) Who's gonna teach our actors/actress to sing/dance? Director? Choreographer??

(6) Lots of other names and positions I'm sure I'm forgetting. Please inform me.

Again, much appreciated!
Joshua

First off, what show? Second, well since you have 7 weeks you're gonna have to get it done in 7 weeks.

The director directs blocking, can suggest changes in choreography, lighting, whatever, but is not in charge of that. He also directs acting and scene setup.

(3) Who decides costumes, makeup, set, etc? Me? Director? some one else? Hire a costume and makeup designer.

(4) Tech, lights, sounds....don't wanna touch that. don't wanna think about that...
You should be meeting with the lighting designer of the performance venue, the director, and all other people involved with the production (other than the actors and such) and discuss lighting changes, set changes, and he/she will get an idea of the lighting plot.

(5) Who's gonna teach our actors/actress to sing/dance? Director? Choreographer??
Sing- Musical Director
Dance- Choreographer

(6) Lots of other names and positions I'm sure I'm forgetting. Please inform me.

Orchestra
Conductor
Lighting Designer
Stage Manager
Set Designer
Stagehands
Music Director
Director
Choreographer
Makeup Designer
Rehearsal Pianist
Budget Manager
Sound Technician
I think that's pretty much it. Although I'm probably forgetting some people.
