I wish.

She was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1991 (1990 season) for Best Actress in a Musical for "Into the Woods".

I was thinking, "I bet she played the Witch!" Then I remembered Julia McKenzie was the witch.

Then Wikipedia came along...and i found out there.

I was like Shocked

I keep seeing her as Umbridge from the new Harry Potter movie doing a scene from the show and then I burst out laughing.

Is there an OLC recording?

Like other OLCRs of Sondheim shows (most prominently Follies) it's more interesting than actually great. Cincidentally the OLCR of Follies and ITW were the first ones I got. Which meant I started my aquaintance with those shows disliking them. In hindsight those recordings are not nearly as bad as I originally thought. It's just that it helps knowing the American counterparts from beforehand. They display some very... original choices of interpretation.

It's also where Our Little World is included for the first time.

Oh yes...I prefer the OBC in some ways and the OLC in others.

OLC was my first one out of the two that I got though Razz

I did not know that! That is really interesting, haha. I love having little factoids like this that I can use to impress my friends at parties. Cool LOL or maybe just to make myself look like a bigger dork! Still though--cool.

So hard to picture her as the BW after seeing that movie, though. I saw it twice and every time she came on the screen I just wanted to smack that b*tch. Hehe.

Hearing the sample, I can definitely hear some Umbridge in her... Listen to Moments in the Woods, at the very end of the sample during: "...and a prince for whatever... Never! It's these woods!" the Umbridge in her really comes out. It's weird there are seven different tracks for the prologue. I think I prefer the Broadway cast. I would buy this one, but I'd rather get a new show since I already have both Broadway recordings of ITW.

Yeah, I'm really not sure I like the London cast. I'd need to hear the full songs to really pass judgement, but I'm not impressed by any of the performers that I hear clips of. Plus, the London logo is really ugly.

EDIT: I can't seem to find a recording of her Adelaide in the 1996 London revival... just how many revivals of Guys and Dolls do they have there anyway? There was one in 1982, one in 1996 and then there was another one this past season, wasn't there? I like Guys and Dolls and everything... but isn't that overkill?

That is odd... I can't picture it. But I suppose she's got the sort of domineering thing down pat Wink
Salome

the london recording is adequate. Stuanton while a wonderful actress is not a good baker's wife..proving Joanna owns the role.
The REAL Ciaron

Salome you are WRONG!! I saw the OLC of Into the Woods and she was very good!!! She was no Joanna Gleason but she did the role justice. McKenzie was the real star of that show. I just wish people on this side of the pond would get to know Julia. She is the first lady of Sondheim over in England!

Of course. That was not stated as her opinion. It was stated as fact.

Fact = Salome is WRONG!
