Season four is here, just had first week of performances discuss....


My Thoughts:
Tyce is out of his league doing the broadway numbers. He is one the greatest jazz/contemporary dancers of his generation, and he is doing broadway because he has done that when... His stuff is ok, but he has no imagination in this category, it's usually a take on what has already been done.

Mia Michaels is completly overrated. She misses on her choreography just as much as she hits.

Nappytabbs, there stuff was ok, first number was just awful, second was good, could have been better.

Onto the dancers, Twitch will go the farthest of the hip-hop dancers as his solo's are crazy, and he has a great partner. Debbie allens prodigy is good. The waltz was beautiful. Disco was kind of boring. No one stood out really in week 1 performances. Still getting used to all performers thats why I didnt mention a ton a names.

But what the HELL was up with the sloppy editing and sound issues in this episode? It looked and sounded like a bunch of handheld video cameras held by monkeys on cocaine were filming this episode.

This show is one of my fav shows on tv - it's mad good.

I'm not really feeling a lot of dancers this season I dunno. I feel like nobody has really shown how talented they really are just yet.

I have to support Jessica King though, because I was in Chicago with her and we went to school together. She's a lot feirce than she's been showing on t.v. so i'm still a little dissapointed.

I think Twitch has a good chance to win though.

Is anybody else besides me completely put off by Mary Murphy's voice? I find it so annoying, like nails on a chalkboard, and not in the adorable way some girls with unique speaking voices have. Hers is unbearable. To me, at least. I don't really watch this show but the rest of my family does and Mary Murphy's voice carries through my walls and drives me crazy, haha.

I was very happy with the dancers that went home last night. Their solos lacked passion and fire. I don't know why Nigel commented to Rayven she should have been on pointe for her solo. I saw her pointe work and was thoroughly unimpressed. Whatever pointe shoe she is wearing is not flattering at all and makes her pointe work look unsupported. And her upper body was just wierd last night.

Yeah, I was also happy with the ones they picked to go home. Rayven's solo just seemed strange to me, and I wasn't very impressed with the guy either.

I LOVED the "going of to war" dance. It was so beautiful, and you could tell that both dancers really put their heart into it. I also really enjoyed the "Tim Burton's Wedding" dance, but it didn't really seem as out there as I would have expected Mia to go... I don't know, sometimes I really like her stuff and sometimes it just doesn't quite work for me.

I absolutely hate Mary's whole existence on the show. She rarely gives the dancers helpful critiques, and her voice is sooooo obnoxious! Also, what is up with Cat's wardrobe? I noticed that last season her dresses got increasingly worse, but I had hope for this season because I liked the dress she wore on Wednesday's episode. But that marroon thing that she was wearing last night?? Not attractive (IMHO).

Rayven was totally sloppy. And what was with her outfit? It seriously played up her flaws. It made her look bottom heavy and dumpy. She also looked like she was trying to do the Suzanne Farrell ginch a'la Balanchine, but she just looked like she was twitching.

Three things:

1) I took a dance workshop with Tyce. I like his Broadway choreography. But I agree it's based on existing choreography.

2) One of my friends was in the top 40! I saw her a bunch of times, and there was a little bit of her dancing. She said that the judges liked her, thought she should pursue dancing, but didn't think she was right for the competition. I sort of agree. She's an incredible dancer, but her strength is not hip hop or lyrical, and she doesn't have a lot of partnering experience.

3) I watched the premiere on the big tv at Gold's Gym. It motivated me to work out harder.

Overall I really wasn't enthralled by any of the performances last night except for the Viennese Waltz and All For the Best. The rest just weren't that exciting to me.

Loved the viennese waltz that Twitchington did. It was very well done. I did not agree with Mia Michaels and the smiling thing. I was very impressed with Twitch. I did not expect him to do so well.
The krump routine after them I just didn't not like. I felt like both dancers lacked attack. They were too worried about counts and choreography, so it was actually kind of boring to watch.

Twitchington is my favorite couple, followed by josh/katie. Carrington is absolutely stunning.

The krump routine was cool choreography, they just SUCKED major at it. Especially the hip hop girl, she was really bad for this being pretty much her style.

I really hate the uma thurma blonde, i think she hbrings nothing but competitive dancing to the table...lame.

The king/mistress number was aweful.

Will is a great dancer, but the judges overate him, and his performance was boring.

My six favorites since auditions are Twitch, Kherington, Will, Chelsea T, Chris and Susie, but the only ones that ended up a couple are my top two, so I guess I'm rooting for Twitchington!

All for the Best was AMAZING. I'm so proud of Katee and Joshua they def. knew coming into the competition that they could be easy to get rid of if they didn't bring it and they have had the best numbers both weeks.

Susie needs to go home. She's a joke. Plain and simple how she weaseled her way into the top 20 is ridiciulous. And her partner can go home along with her, he looks like he has nice tricks but no sense of partnership in dancing or performance qualities.

Chris and Comfort were dreadful. The cheorography was alright, i think Comfort ended up pulling back to try and even up with Chris which brought the whole thing down. She was not on her game and i'm dissapointed with her and Chris could go home too if Marquis doesn't. But I think Chris and Marquis would be a terrible couple.

I hate Kerrington btw. And the smiling during the dance needed to be talked about. She's SO one deminsional! If you look at everything she's ever done on this show she has smiled the whole way through. But of course she does a routine that has a very emotional backstory so nobody is able to really critique. But I knew Mia was dieing to tell that bitch to stop being so toothy and show some actual depth in her dancing, so did she look like a bitch for saying it? Yes did it need to be said? Yes. And Lord knows Nigel wasn't going to do it he was too busy creaming in his pants over her.

I agree that Katee and Joshua did well. Katee still has alot to make up for though when she sort of dissed the panel before making the top 20.

As far as Kherington and her smile, I don't think it was an over-the-top megawatt smiley face. I think her smile was more of an expression of rapture and joy, which is basically what Jean-Marc was going for. I think the ebb and flow between Kherington and Twitch is what made that dance work. Mia was not privy to as much of the backstory, so I think her comments were a little off. Mia comes from a totally different place choreographically, and I think her comment was off the mark on this one. Usually I agree with what she says, but not this time.
As far as what I saw from the other dancers . . . .yikes, they need to step up their game.

I didn't mind it so much during Broadway because it is Broadway and it's a happy, up in the top torso of the body dance, but she could have added a lot more by simply looking more seductive and sultry.

i have yet to see her dance without that plastered smile. she's a great dancer, has great sense of body and movement, but the smile doesn't work all the time. She really could be the next Sabra if she just studied herself more and added levels to her dance. She needs depth - she needs to get Mia for a comtemporary routine she'll throw her ass through the ringer.

I see what you're talking about HK, but I personally see K's smile as more of a joyful expression. If you look at the overall movement quality she had at audition, the smile worked for her. Plus her interpretation of that song I think is probably different from what you would say it is. Not wrong either way, just different.
From what Jean-Marc said about his daughter and how and why he created that waltz, the smile worked, especially when she looked right at Twitch. Is it always going to work? No. But it worked well in this instance.
Personally, I don't see her smile as plastered on, like I've said before. It seems more joyful to me.
As for working with Mia, we'll see. Mia may have changed her tune by then like she did with Heidi.
Sabra, yes she can dance, but I for some reason did not like her technique. I don't know why, but something just bugged me.

Glad Susie went home. Kind of surprised it wasn't Comfort they chose to send away. Sad for Marquis (sp?). I thougth after the krump disaster Chris would be going home.

I think Chris should have gone home instead of Marquis, he had horrible technique on his solo! I was glad that Susie went home, although I would have been happy with Comfort leaving too. All 6 solos were soooo much better then the ones last week though, and I'm glad that they're all stepping it up.

Hmm it was an interesting result show. I really could of told you that those two were going to go home before they even started this week.

Susie was the joke of the seaosn, somehow she squeaked by on her personality and hairflips, but she def. didn't have the skill or correct pazzaz to get her through any further.

Marquis was a little interesting and I think a lot more goes into this than what we saw of the solos (unfortunately). I of course am always the one to try and understand the judges decision before I go and say "that's complete bullshit; they're racist" or whatever the complaints are about that decision.

My own personal idea about this is that Marquis is a very talented dancer but I think he did the same thing over and over again. Just based on what he kept doing over and over for the beginnings of the show and what we saw of his solos during vegas and auditions is that he did the same streaches, same standing leg triples. So for the judges it's just all tricks and tricks that they've seen before. And as judges they got rid of him bc they weren't ready to get rid of Chris and Thanye and felt in the coming weeks that the audience just wasn't attached enough to Marquis to remember him.

very similar to Jimmy last season, who I thought was an amazing dancer, but once again always did the same thing and didn't show any versitility as a contemporary dancer.

that's all I can really say about that. Hopefully next week we will get better cheorography, costumes, and that the dancers have come to realize that in their dances they have to show they want this to last.

Based on solo's chris should have went home. Based on performances Marquis deserved to go home. He was a horrible partner.

I hope for the special guest dancers they would let Tyce and Mandy Moore do a duet, as if you havn't seen them dance before...they are sick!


I dug the shane sparks routine, and twitch was by far the best in it.

You expect them to actually to get good guest performers? whha? that's not in the budget haha. the last two have been rediciously horrible.

I would love to see them bring back dancers from past seasons in sort of a "where are they now?" series, have them do a feirce peice and then be able to talk about all the success they have gotten from the show. would be flawless.

Shane Sparks peice was really awesome. showed all the other hip hop cheorographers that they gotten that he still really is the shit. I also saw that when they did the more difficult hip hop combo the people featured in it where Twitch, Comfort, Joshua and Will --- where was Gev? isn't he a hip hopper? I wonder if he was taken out of it because he wasn't able to keep up and replaced by Will. Just thought it was odd that someone who classifies themselves as Contemporary was featured in the hip hop number over someone who is hip hop.

Cat and the Judges were being so bratty tonight (in a good way!). It was so funny.

Mark & Chelsie - I've loved them from day one (especially Mark, who I think can act act ACT too). They're just beautiful together, and really tell interesting and amazing stories.

Twich & Kerrington are tied with Mark and Chelsie for my favorite couple. They can do no wrong in my opinion. Although she did have a couple accidental smiles in there!

Loved the Matt and Courtney routine tonight. I could practically see the "BANG!" symbols on the screen. Adorable dance, and I thought they did it really well. Matt is just a SENSATIONAL dancer.

Comfort I really like, and she did well tonight. I think they're harder on Chris than they should be, but I do find him dull, so I'm not sure if I really NEED him on the show, although he is a good dancer. I think he does bring her down a bit. I thought she was great tonight, though, no matter what the judges said.

Gev and Courtney are the cutest couple. His unrequited love is so sweet. They dance in a way that seems slightly immature (you know what I mean) but it is honest and sweet, so I really like them.

Joshua and Katee are one of the most interesting couples, really. They just fit so well together. I think Katee really comes to life when she dances, much more than when she's just talking (though she is likable).

I love this show I could talk about it for hours.
But I was VERY VERY disappointed with the judges voting off Kourtni instead of Comfort. I'm sorry if I'm offending any Comfort fans but she will never be able to dance the way Kourtni did. Just very very disappointing because Kourtni was one of the best dancers they had. But so far my favorites are Kerrington, and Twitch, and Katie & Joshua. And i love Tyson ( i think thats his name) or Ty or something the one that cherographs the Broadway routines and of course Mia Miachels cherography is always bomb.

I think the reason they use Tyce is because his stuff is so old Broadway, and very inspired by Fosse.
Many of today's dancers don't get enough dance history, and the themes behind Broadway style. Because of that, I am glad that these kids get to work with Tyce. I just wish that they would say "this dance was inspired by XCHoreographer's work from Xshow. As they have it now, it does appear that Tyce is a bit of a hack pulling from all of the great choreographers.
I sooo wish Comfort had gome home. She's been in the bottom 3 how many times?

Twitch was the first person to actually krump, and krump well.

The bollywood piece bored me, and basically almost every dance this week. The judges need to see real broadway choreography because tyce's stuff is lame. I wish they had a choreographers performance on one of the shows, as tyce and mandy moore are two of the greatest jazz/contemporary dancers in there generation...a duet would be sick! But their choreography on the show leaves something to be desired. This was just a bad week in general....and someone tell the judges to stop hyping Will as the greatest dancer ever, his dances have almost never stood out.

Last nights show was great! My favorite was the crumping with Kherrington & Twitch, that was very amazing. And I liked Kourtney & Gevs dances they both were good. And of course Chelsie & Mark did a great job as always. And Katee & Joshua did really well I thought with their waltz, and bollywood which was amazing to see. But I felt really bad for Jessica when Mia Micheals said to Will that he needed a new partner. But I dont think she will be the one to go home, honestly I think Comfort will, and the for the guys I have no idea. Well I guess we will see!!

I agree about Courtney & Gev being underrated- I've loved almost every single one of their dances! I didn't listen to all of the judges critiques however, so I really have no comments about them except that I'm getting more and more creeped out by Nigels apparent attraction to the girls 40 years younger than him...

My favorite dance would be Chelsea & Mark's Salsa, followed by Katee and Joshua's Bollywood dance. The thing I don't get about Katee & Joshua, is that while I love watching them dance- for some reason I don't like them. I dom't really know why, but I always seem to forget them and not care about watching them, even though I always am entertained by them.

I thought Jessica & Will's modern dance was really good, and I thought that they danced the Foxtrot well- I just really didn't like the choreography. I don't think Jessica is as bad as the judges make her out to be.
I really hope they finally send Comfort home! Since I was watching the show on DVR I just fast forwarded through her and Thaynes second dance...it just didn't look interesting.

Well even though I think what Mia said to Jessica was rude, and I dont agree with what she said I still think she is a BRILLANT cherographer, I mean I'm still in complete love with one of her dances in Season 3 with Lacey & Kameron dancing to dancing. That dance will always stay in my head!! And then my most favorite this season with Kherrington & Twitch on the bed. I mean that was amazing. And I will be sad to see if Thayne goes home because I just dont think him and Comfort are that good of couple because he is an amazing dancer.

All the guys solo's were great, and twitch's musicality is sick, along with his dancing...all of the girls solo's were lame, but kherrington's not as lame. Jessica's was riddled with poor technique, it was embarassing to watch. Since I am pretty sure the top 10 rotate partners I wonder how will, will do with a new partner, as i dont think he has held his own either, the judges just worship him, and clearly want him to win (he could, but they are forcing it down our throats).

Alvin Ailey is brilliant!!! Hopefully they throw in a performance by Hubbard Street.

Yup Jessica's back here in Myrtle Beach trying to get better. She has three broken ribs and possibly phenomia (sp?). She's in rough shape the competition really wore her down, but I'm feeling she'll be able to pull herself back together quickly.

Lil' C is by far the best judge to come onto the show. He was clear, articulate, described what he liked and disliked, and got to the point.

Mary is SO annoying, and i think she was in a bad mood tonight.

I bet anything the guy guest tomorrow is Wade Robson...as his dances are even more gold for voting than mia.

Of the dances will/Katey imagine dance was good. Twitch and Comfort killed the hip-hop. Gev is very underrated. Mark/Kherington were surprisingly a bad couple (though tyce's jazz routine was just awful). Twitch has gotten the hardest dances the last like 3 weeks. I'm not a big fan of joshua's popping style as he does the big body roll and big pop at the end over and over, he is really good at teh speed but it felt like his audition dance. The guys are so much better than the girls this year. I think it should go down from the top 10 on as to the two who get the least votes go regardless of gender. Who cares if two guys or girls partner together, it would only not work in ballroom.

Am I the only one that wants to see the choreographers dance as the guest performers on one of the episodes....give me a tyce/mandy moore routine choreographed by mia michaels, and trust me when I say that it would blow your minds as they are top 3 male and female jazz/contemporary dancers of their generation. I also want a lil C and Dave scott routine. What happened to dan karaty??? He judged week 1 hasnt been back to judge or choreograph.

I just want to say that I'm so impressed and amazed by the progress Twitch has made in two years. His extensions and line are beautiful, and he is getting most of the classical stuff extremely well. He's been my favorite from day one (and also last year I rooted for him as far as he went) but he's even exceeded my expectations. Add his amazing personality, and even more amazing body, and I think we have a winnah. Interesting that Kherrington did so poorly without Twitch. Now anyone who says that Kherrington's training was carrying Twitch can sit on it...and rotate!!

I honestly think twitch will probably win, at least final 4, as he is like benji and really entertaining, plus he is phenominal at hiphop.

Comfort is a bad partner period, she did good in hiphop for the first time all season, but not so good in the waltz.

Katie's mess up in the imagine piece was HUGE, and nigel barely commented on it, they almost fell down, and then after that it took a good 20 seconds before they got back to where they were at. Though it was a good dance. Interesting note Danny tidwell left ABC to join Desmonds company because desmond had promised him that he would be his replacement when he left...but desmond lied and it almost made danny quit dance period because he lost his energy to perform...although now I hear he is a mess again.

But i get to find out what happens today before anyone!!!! As I will be at the show

I wanted Gev to stay on a little longer-- for a break dancer, he was consistantly good at adapting to whatever styles he was given, esp. the ballrooms.

I was so sure it would be Comfort. But I guess Kherington kinda gave up and figured she made top 10, so she wasn't trying as hard. I didn't think she was as great as the judges made her out to be-- but definitely I thought she would outlast Comfort.

I think that Mark should have left this week. Gev has just proven to be more versatile and more stable in their own style. Mark's solo I could have done, and I shouldn't feel that way.

Comfort should have gone as well, duh. She's just not able to adpat to other styles, she was badass in the hip hop, but duh she's supposed to be.

I really want Chelise Hightower to go, but the judges love her. I think she's WACK for real. Just nothing really interesting about her personality wise and nothing to hold on to dance-wise. But I think she'll probably make final 4 out of the girls left.

Right now my perdiction for final four would be Katee, Chelise, Will and Twitch.

I wasn't surprised about Kherrington because she needs a strong partner like Twitch was. She's pretty. She's talented. But she's a really good follower, not a leader.

Gev. He reminds me so much of Dominic, which is a good thing. I will miss his personality.

It's funny. Last year at this time we were all saying "Danny. No, Neil. No, Sabra. No, Pasha, No, it's going to be a Schwimmer Redux!" This year, all I can see is Twitch, with maybe a little Will and Katee. This season, there seems to be more overall quality, but less personality.

Not gonna lie, I wanted Comfort gone . . . again. I just don't like her style in anything she does. Courtney and Katee both stood out for me this week. I don't want to like Katee, but I am finding that she's growing on me.

The guys, man, I couldn't choose, because I have seen moments of brilliance from both on the bottom 2. I just don't know how I feel about the guys. LOVE Will's technique though.

I was really disapointed with pretty much all of the dances this week...no one really seemed to "shine" in my opinion, and I actually was so bored that I fast forwarded through a lot of the dances. The 2-step routine was dead awful in my book. And I don't think it was entirely the dancers fault- I really thought the choreography was dull and awkward at moments.
As for the elimination, I'm glad Kherington is gone, but I wish Comfort could have left too. They were both pretty awful this week- Comfort has never impressed me with her hip-hop dancing, and she is a pale comparison to all of the other girls in the other styles. I'm really not rooting for any guys in particular right now...Will and Joshua are probably my top 2 though.

oh! And what was with that group number last night?!? Totally lame & boring.

I am glad Comfort is gone . . . .again. Sad to see Will go, but he will definitely have a career in dance, he is that good.

Liked watching LA Ballet. The girl was bugging me though. She kept shortening her neckline by raising her shoulders. Not pretty. But it was pretty to watch overall.

Suprised by the bottom 2, as i thought it should be switched with joshua going home. I would say it was the worst bottom two in teh history of teh show for the guys. It was almost as bad as lasts nights America's best dance crew episode when two of the top three teams where in the bottom, while a bunch of crappy groups got to move on without worry. LAME!

I personally would have sent Mark or Joshua home. Twitch and Will have both been so good. Twitch especially for someone with very little formal training.

The bottom 2 guys were the only surprises. Based on wednesday performances they were the best performances. I thought for sure josh/mark would be the bottom two.

Mark is the hardest to gage as he is so unique as a dancer.

Twitch win's now. His biggest competition is now gone. And let's be serious no girl has a shot. The fact that twitch looks good in every dance style and he has NO formal training (except hiphop as i have taken class with him a bunch) he is very talented. Josh is good, but I feel like his solo is the same thing over and over again, and yes we get it you can do the body roll pop really really well!

Who else is annoyed with "IV Real" it is cheesy and they are just trying to force feed dancers to have a new catch phrase...

Also this season is so annoying with choreographers choices...Napoleon and Tabitha have choreographed almost every hiphop dance. Mia has choreographed so much this year, same with Tyce. They need to spread out and bring in some new talent. There are SOOO many talented choreographers that they could use for the show in LA, not to mention that the ones in NYC to do the broadway. Why not hire susan stroman to do a broadway piece?? She actually dances broadway unlike tyce who is just a jazz/contemporary dancer.

As for choreographers, yes, I would like to see more variety. Last I checked I am available to do some new choreography. Nigel, call me, we'll do lunch.

Loved the finale. I still think Katee should have won, but seriously - all of the Top Ten are the real winners of that show.

But seriously, what a great finale. All of the guests and special numbers were great. Apart from the Jonas Brothers, who really just faded into the background. I loved Nigel's tap number and the Cirque dance.

I usually enjoy the Jonas Brothers a lot... but they sucked tonight. Oh well.

I was happy with either Joshua or Twitch winning, though I did vote for Twitch. It's all good. This season was definitely the season for the boys. A boy needed to win.

The Cirque dance didn't impress me. I was bored. I didn't get it. Whatever. It was good and filled with talent... just didn't like it.

Nigel and Mary are officially both great dancers. I respect their opinions a lot more.

I orgasmed in the performance with the "Best of SYTYCD". Travis Wall NEVER fails to impress me and make my jaw drop.

What was with Allison's eyebrows?

Who else was disappointed that the Twitchington bed routine wasn't re-performed tonight?

Lil C is the best judge to grace the presence of SYTYCD. Adam Shankman is the worst. He's all about self-promotion.

The dance battle was sweet, phillip deserved to lose as he wasnt really battling, he just kept doing his own thing and didnt really give Robert much time...but when he had it he clowned on Phillip ALOT! Which is what battling is all about.

Why didn't they do the bed dance??? It was 10x better than that stupid door dance.

Adam shankman is a lame judge. Lil C is by far the best judge

I liked how they all said the judges would dance next year...about time!

I felt like nigel had some of his sounds enhanced while tapping. Mary's dance was kinda blah for me, and she was an INCREDIBLE ballroom girl back in the day.

The best of SYTYCD piece was alright for me, some of the dancers I did not even remember...and when did allison have a kid? Also what the hell happened to Nick Lazarini??? he has disappeared, and I was so surprised how much they featured Blake McGrath as he is a big B*tch, and it showed on his montage (although he is really the only working "dancer" to come from the show).
