So then which do you pick...?

I have two potential auditions coming up... Just moved to a new state, so neither of these theaters know me.

One is a small community theater and they are doing Peter Pan. Auditions are at the end of August. Not sure what version they are doing or how many adult roles there are or what kind. The theater seems to be run by and cast with the board (as in, board memebers are who most often make up the cast and/or leads) going off of their website and from a show I saw there recently. Small stage, OK theater, OK talent, overall, just small. Barring politics I think I have a pretty good chance at being in their shows.

BUT- there is a professional theater that should be having auditions for Cinderella around the same time (I'm just guessing dates right now, since they haven't posted them on their website yet, but guestimating from the other shows it should be around the end of Aug./beg. of Sept.). All their leads are Equity. I'm not sure if I would be cast in a show there or not. I won't have an opportunity to see what kind of local talent would get cast in the chorus of a show. (only thing between now and auditions is a one-woman show)

I don't want to audition for Peter Pan, get cast, audition for Cinderella, get cast and drop out of Peter Pan. But if I hold out for Cinderella, I may not get anything at all. These are the last opportunities to be in a show until next summer.

Advice? (my decision making skills have been broken for about a year or so now... Wink )
Thanks.

Hmm... Yep, you've got a dilemma there! You've got it better than me, though! There are two theatre groups that I might be able to be part of, but problems are starting to come up, so I'm not sure I'll be able to be in either. Sad
But anyway, if I were you, I would ask myself these questions:
1. Which show do you like better?
2. What is more important to you, playing a larger role in a less professional theatre, or a smaller role in a professional theatre?
I would choose "Cinderella", mostly because I like the show much more than "Peter Pan". Good luck on figuring it all out!

cinderella is a better choice im auditioning for a peterpan within the 2 weeks but its because of no choice

I would go with Peter Pan. Since you just moved, get acquainted (sp?) with the community theatres in your area until you are well-established. Then audition for the professional theatres.

Being brand new to the area, this is probably your best chance to get cast in the professional show- they won't have any pre-concieved ideas about you. If you start with the community theatre, it will take a lot longer to get cast professionally because they will think of you as a community theatre person.

you better audition for both. You are counting your chickens before they are hatched. and all those eggs are in one basket.

If you don't audition for the small show and the pro show blows you off - you will be crying over spilled milk.

I'll add more bad ephitets later.
