i havent seen the musical live yet. Sad i wasn't making money when it came out and ran. but i did see the movie.

so...angel killed the akida (dog)??? i love angel. but that's not cool. i mean. i dunno.

Thanks to xxstagekiss aka lexi for the wonderful siggie!!
What you own

Yes she kille dthe dog. You see a lady came up to her and said Look I'll give you money if you keep playign your pickle drum in front of this house. Since there is a dog here I really hate and just won't shut up. Well Angel did that and the dog I guess jumped out the wiondow or something. We later learn that the dog Angel killed was Bennys dog.

At least thats what I've come to understand

Hope it helps.

yah i heard the lyrics in teh song.. i think it's called TODAY FOR ME TOMORROW FOR YOU. and i kinda gathered that... i just hope angel played the drums outside the window causing the dog to jump instead of physically grabbing it and throwing it off the ledge u know.

Thanks to lexi aka xxstagekiss for this wonderful siggie!

^ Haha, yeah it's "Today 4 U" (actually written like that) and it was the drums. lol, nah, she didn't just chuck the dog from the ledge. That'd be awful. Laughing

These shoutouts are getting more and more amusing.

I have a confession. I always thought Angel pushed the dog out the window. I always thought that was odd as it seemed out of Angel's character. XD Don't shoot me.

Really?

Random bit of La Boheme trivia from a resident opera buff:

In Boheme, the animal is a parrot, and Schaunard kills it by feeding it poisoned parsley. In case anyone didn't know.

^^that is interesting. huh.

Thanks for mentioning that. I had always knew that Angel had killed the dog but never really looked into how because it wasn't a main part of the musical/movie.

I have to confess, I found it a little challenging when I saw the show to get past the fact that Angel basically kills a dog, and does an awesome song-and-dance number about it, and everybody else just thinks it was an absolutely awesome and hilarious thing to do.

I can see why. Laughing Keep in mind that all of the characters are VERY bohemian and not exactly virtuous.
KristinT

Yeah, and once the song was over I moved on and got over it and enjoyed the rest of the show. I only mentioned it during interval to a Renthead who just rolled their eyes at me and said "Whatever, they're bohemian, okay?" and I thought, but didn't say, "I don't know many bohemians who find cruelty to animals LOLtastic."

As I say, I did enjoy the show.
Sphynx

You also have to remember that he didn't just kill this dog out of malice. He didn't even touch the animal. He didn't kill her because he hated her - he was paid. These guys are broke beyond belief. When you're desperate, you'll do a lot of things for money.

I find it to be stretching it a bit to suggest that Angel's drumming is so hypnotic that it can lure a small dog into jumping out a window. That's kind of ridiculous.

I think that it's obvious that he physically does it. But as Sphynx said, it wasn't out of malice. It was out of desperation. It may not be cool, but it makes Angel a more layered and complex character.

Angel does NOT physically get anywhere near the dog. The Akita is in another unit, and being a yappy, highly excitable dog, works itself into a frenzy hearing Angel drumming from the neighbor's unit and winds up launching itself off the balcony, falling down to the Gracie Mews. While the woman obviously hopes the dog will bark itself to death ( a fitting retribution for non-stop yapping for a YEAR) neither she nor Angel intended the dog to jump.

And it's only a play, only a plot device, and part of the historical model of La Boheme. It moves the story forward, establishes Angel's cameraderie and generous nature, and provides funding for the artistes to eat and celebrate their familial society.
