Ulla Dance Again!

So, I'm going to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway...

... but before I head off into the music of the night (oi, that was bad joke, I'm so sorry)... I'd like to know about the present B'way cast and what you all think of them. I recently saw the movie adaptation (I wasn't too thrilled by it, though I did like most of it). The only issue I had with the film was Gerad Butler's singing. It got to me after a while... so I am REALLY hoping that whoever plays the Phantom in this production has a lovely singing voice.

Oh, but he does. Put the movie out of your mind. It exists as a completely different entity.

You'll get Howard McGillan, longest running b'way Phantom, supposed to be very good. If you're lucky you might catch the new alternate who started this week and has a lovely voice!

We're (the Newman club) going on the 19th... so I may catch that alternate!

As you can tell, I haven't seen it on B'way before... but I'm really excited. Very Happy

I have yet to hear a stage Phantom with as bad singing voice as Gerard Butler. Or Emmy Rossum, for that matter. The current Broadway leads should be:

PHANTOM: Howard McGillin
CHRISTINE: Rebecca Pitcher
CHR. ALTERNATE: Jennifer Hope Wills
RAOUL: Michael Lewis

Yep, saw it last night and those guys were there. It was awesome... I'd go see it again in a heartbeat.
Very Happy
My friend thought that Hugh Panaro (sp?) made for a better Phantom (she's seen the show three times) but I thought Howard McGillin was pretty awesome -- hey, if he can make me cry he's doing something right. Gerad Butler didn't make me cry, he made me cringe. Laughing Seriously... he's a gorgeous man but singing is not his forte.
Salome

McGillin iss one of Broadways finest and most versatile actors..he can even make dreck like Phantom shine.

check him out of the following cast recoding.

Anything Goes-1987 revival
Kiss of The Spiderwoman- new broadway cast recording
Mystery Of Edwin Drood- OBC
Fifty MIllion Frenchmen-studio recording
Bounce-OCR

the man has done brilliant work.

I definitely will... I love his voice. He came out after the show to talk about Broadway Cares - I think he had his CD available but it was going for 20 dollars and I didn't have the money or the time to get it. But I'll definitely look into his other works.

I just Phantom with Howard McGillin, Jennifer Hope Wills, Michael Lewis about 3 days ago, and it was beyond awesome. I was seriously crying during the songs it just so good.

Michael Lewis is really nice too. Me and my friend got our pictures taken with him after the show.

I could have gotten his autograph, but I was with a group so I didn't have the time. He was really good as Raoul, though. Very Happy

I spent a whole car-ride with my dad just talking about POTO. It was pretty crazy...because I just started rambling about the special effects and everything. Laughing
