Monsieur D'Arque

Smile

I was just in a production of Smile as Big Bob Freelander, a part I came to love. The only trouble was, I'm a higher tenor, and Bob is a bass part. I worked with my music director, and we either transposed or altered many of my vocal lines for the show- I sang the "Okay, Bob" section of the Act 1 Finale one octave up, giving me an opportunity to float some Ab and B notes in my mix voice, and my director told me to listen to Elton John recordings to find the right place to sing Bob's Song, which is an Elton John-style ballad. It turned into an incredible performance once I found my voice for the show, and the rest of the cast, especially our Brenda and Ted, were incredible.

Has anyone else ever done this show? Also, has anyone else had to take liberties with their vocal line?

I've never seen nor performed this show...

Oh, my friend sang "Disneyland" in our school's cabert and I have a CD of the show which she gave me.

I'm currently trying to learn "Disneyland"
