small ethical dilemma . . .So what do you do when you know, and I mean know for a fact, that someone is padding their resume? I know someone who is telling people she played a certain role, and I know for absolute fact she never did. Granted I've never worked with her, but I know several people who have, and 1 friend is currently working with her. She uses this "role" as her claim to fame (well at least 1 claim to fame, she has 2, and the other I know is true).
Since I may work with her in the near future, what do I do? Not say anything unless asked?

Say nothing until asked and when someone does ask - tell the truth.

She's currently working with a dear friend of mine, who asked me if I had known her because of her fake claim to fame. I said no, but now I am wondering if I should tell him the truth, because she is using this lie on her resume to further her career.

Honestly, at some point she'll get caught in the lie.
Show biz is a pretty tight community. You rarely know who's behind the table until you get there and even then, you don't know all the people that they know and who they have worked with.
It's funny, I was helping a friend cast a show and we had a smaller group of photos of people we were looking to call back. My boyfriend at the time walks into the room, sees the picture and scans the resume...
Then he gasps, "OMG! I DID THAT SHOW! SHE WASN'T IN IT! SHE DROPPED OUT OF THAT SHOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE PUT THAT ON HER RESUME!"
The casting director was nice enough to send her an email instructing her that it may be in her best interest to take that credit off of her resume, as it just cost her a callback.
Those sorts of things take care of themselves...

I am hoping that this situation will take care of itself. The theatre community here is pretty small, and I am shocked that no one caught her in this lie earlier. It took me a minute to put it all together, but I checked my sources and I know she did NOT play this part that she has listed. It's because of the fake experience that directors first started using her.

there's not really anything you can do until you are actually on the casting team.

Why did you lie to your "dear friend"? It would have been easy and truthful to say, "Oh yeah, I know her. But she didn't play xxxx in that show, she was YYYY."
If you lied to your friend to protect this other girl, but now regret doing that, then sure... give your friend a call and 'fess up. Explain why you lied "I didn't want to wreck her reputation" and just tell what you know "she actually played YYY, and I didn't realize she was claiming ZZZZ."
Otherwise keep your mouth shut unless you're asked.

No, I didn't lie to my friend. I actually just put 2 and 2 together recently, after he had asked me about her. And our shows were in 2 different locations that were run by the same people.

I'd keep it to yourself unless you're asked. Since you already said you didn't know her to your friend, if you call and say "I forgot I do know her by reputation and she played xxxx and not yyyy in the show" then it will sound as if you are bitter and trying to cause drama. But if your friend asks you again, I'd change your answer about not knowing who she is.
