Skid Row---Audrey included in 'Others"?Hi Guys!
I was cast as Audrey for a spring production of LSOH, but due to the fact that we are currently focusing on a different show, my directors are a bit distracted. So theyre not much help at all at this moment.
SO what I was wondering is, during "Skid Row", when Seymour is singing ...."That's your home address, ya live ....when your life's a mess...." etc etc etc,
when it states that the "Others" sing (i.e., "there's no rules for us, downtown, cause its dangerous..."), is Audrey included in that??? She probably is, I just wanted to make sure...
Thanks!!!

I'd say no, but I'm currently doing a production where the music director said she should so, it's an either or. I don't think the lyrics suit Audrey, but I respect our Audrey (cause she's a sweetheart) and the music director.

Audrey has some solo singing in Downtown (my fave song in the show!) and she and Seymour sing together at the ending, but she does not sing the same vocal line as the ensemble.

When I was Audrey, I sang the chorus part when I didn't have a solo. Maybe our music director just wanted another voice. It's not written that she actually sings it, but I did... so I guess it'll totally be up to your director.

I'd have a bash at learning it then when you get to rehearsing it do as guided.
If I were you and if you want to sing it I'd do so until they told me not to.

As far as I remember, Audrey's part is pretty clearly outlined in Downtown. She does not sing with the others becuase she has solo lines, and I think it would make her lines less impactful if she sang before she came in:
Downtown where the guys are drips,
Downtown where they rip your slips
Downtown where relationships are no go
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
Down on skid row
And then comes in with Seymour's solo lines near the end, until the end. They sing overtop of the ensemble, so I can't see how she could sing with them:
Someone tell me a way to get outta here, etc.
I dunno, hope that helps. I could be wrong, but I think that's the proper way to do it.

There is a chorus part, like you said, before her "Downtown where the guys are drips..." part (and to tell you the truth, I don't remember singing the "Downtown" part of that... I think I came in on "where the guys are drips") but I'm pretty sure I sang that first chorus part. Once again, that may have simple been my musical director wanted as many voices as possible.
But there is a part before Audrey comes in with Seymour... during he's "treats me like dirt, calls me a slob, which I am" part there are some "Ahs". And then there's the next part:
Chorus: Downtown
Seymour: That's your home address, you live...
Chorus: Downtown
Seymour: When your life's a mess you live...
Chorus: Downtown
Seymour: Where depression's just status quo
Chorus: Down on Skid Row
Seymour: Someone show me a way to get outta here. 'Cause I constaintly pray I'll get outta here. Please won't somebody say I'll get outta here. Someone give me my shot, or I'll rot here.
Then Seymour and the chorus sing in counterpoint, still no Audrey part:
Seymour: Show me how and I will, I'll get outta here. I'll start climbin' up hill and get outta here. Someone tell me I still can get outta here. Someone tell Lady Luck that I'm stuck here.
Chorus: Downtown, there's no rules for us. Downtown, 'cause it's dangerous. Downtown, where the rainbow's just a no show.
Then Audrey has the "Gee, it sure would be swell to get outta here..." part, with the chorus underneath. I know that I sang the chorus part until this point.
Personally, I'd learn it just in case they have you do it. It is not specifically written for Audrey to sing in the chorus, but I did and I know others have. It can't hurt to learn it.
