Singin' in the Rain

So, my high school is doing "Singing in the Rain", and I would LOVE to have the part of Kathy. Or, I would just like to leave a good impression. I'm only a Freshman, so it would be highly doubtful for me to get the lead, but you never know. Very Happy I was wondering what would be a good song to sing for the audition?

What voice part are you and what songs do you already know that could suit as you only have 1 week to prepare, right?

I'm a soprano. I can sing first, but am most comfortable with second. Hmm, I don't know how to list all the songs i know, but I know songs from mostly overdone shows, unfortunately.

I am somewhat familiar with "Johnny One-note" from "Babes in Arms"
and others i'm forgetting. Very Happy

I don't think "Johnny One-Note" is particularly overdone. If you can do it well, it might make a good audition song. Plus, its from the roughly the same period as the songs from Singin' in the Rain.

From the songs and shows you know, the only thing that would really work for Kathy Seldon is "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I know it's usually a huge no no because Judy did it etc, but as it's high school I think you'd get away with it and it would work well to show off the right vocal quality.

I would pick "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" over "Johnny One Note". It shows off your voice better, and I think "Johnny One-Note" is annoying. Not exactly overdone, but we usually hear it 2-3 times per show auditions.

"Somewhere over the Rainbow" isn't great for her voice either.
