Sing!I found out today i will be singing 'Sing' in our Feburary show at college.
I have to say i am GUTTED! I am a strong singer and have a voice more suited to songs by Christine in Phantom or Fantine in Les Mis. I understand the teachers are trying to challenge me but i just think the song is so awful!
I find it so hard to try and sing badly when for the last 5 years i have been trained to do the exact opposite!
Has anyone got any tips or advice please? I really need your help. xx

It takes talent to sing badly, correctly, so don't freak! Plus a lot of this song is acting. Show 'em what you got!

This song is so hilarious! Just look at it more as a monologue than a song. I do agree that singing bad but still good as this song calls for is harder than just purely singing good. Enjoy the audience's laughs.

Get over myself? Why because ive asked for help on a song that im struggling with?
Its like asking a trained dancer to dance badly. Im not saying im to good to do it, im saying that im finding it a challenge.
If youve got nothing constructive to say then keep your mouth shut.

the subtext would be:

Whatever im is...
If you can sing Christine or Fantine, Sing should be no trouble. My darling friend is playing the character in the show right now, and she has one of the most lovely soprano voices I've ever heard, and she seems to have no trouble singing Sing!

You also have to realize that there are many different types of bad singers: off pitch/key, off tempo (wouldn't really work), breathy, nasally, etc.

If you don't want people to give you their opinions, don't start a thread soliciting advice.
I agree with all the above--the song is obviously more about acting than it is about giving the big dramatic solo that you seem to want. However, it is still very fun and the audience will love you if you do it well. If your attitude is "I'm so good that I don't know how to act like I'm bad," then you're selling yourself short as an actress. Just listen to the recordings for ideas, and give it a try--as what_the_heck013 said, there are lots of different ways to be a "bad" singer, so just pick one and have fun with it. Just watch that you don't damage your voice. Good luck with it.

Probably go with off-key/pitch. Personally, I think this is a really funny song. Remember to let Al cut you off-don't just suddenly stop, waiting for him to say his line. You could do this a little while through the song, though, to make it funny. Have fun!

I would do that on the first one. If I were performing the song, the first time Al is supposed to finish the line, I would kind of smack him lightly on the hsoulder to signal him to finish. Then have him interrupt you.

this song could be really fun. Just make fun of bad singers you know.
