Should I even bother auditioning??Ok maybe you guys can help me...I found an audition for a professional production of Miss Saigon and I must admit I know absolutely nothing about the show. I'm trying to deside if I should even audition. I'm 17 and I have both a mezzo-belter range and an operatic soprano ranger. The last profesional productions I was in were Once Upon a Mattress(Winifred), You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Lucy), and Candide (Cunegonde). I don't really want to be in the ensamble, not that I have a problem with being in an ensamble at all, but the theater where it is being done is far from my house and I can get into the ensamble of shows I know and like that are closer to me. So are there any parts I could even go for? I realize my age is the biggest problem but I look older than I am (I can probably play up to early/mid twenties) and I'm homeschooled and I dedicate most of the time I'm not doing school work to theater (thats how I was able to do the other shows I've done!) So any info about the charactor ages and ranges and stuff like that would be great!!!! Thanks!! |

I don't think your age is a problem at all. In fact, you are at the ideal range for every female character in the show, pretty much (you'd want someone from age 16-25). Kim (the protagonist) is 17 at the start of the show and... 20? by the end, I think. Although if you appear much younger when you are on stage it could be a problem. You're also probably the OK age-range for most of the bar-girls, and maybe Ellen... For a synopsis, have a look at

Just go for it! You can always audition! If you screw up it's a shame, but if you don't..... heehee! | ||

Are you Asian? If not, forget it, unless you forsee them casting you for a role that's usually mid-20s. For everything else, Google. |

Well, sometimes they have non-Asian characters in the parts. If you look *fairly* Asian, you might score a part as one of the bargirls. You probably couldn't get Ellen because I think she's supposed to be a bit older than Kim, and a 17-year-old would probably look too young. |
