Should I bother to Audition?

A local theatre is having auditions soon, and I'm sort on the fence about auditioning. I'll describe myself, I have curly brown hair, fair skin, brown eyes, 5'4" slender body build. I'm a very strong singer and actress, but by dancing is very, very lacking. I've never had any lessons at all. I'm a soprano who typically plays ingenue roles, so I thought maybe I should go for Kim. But then again, I'm not a blond and I'm 20 years old. Maybe I'm a bad fit for this show, what do you think? Should I audition at all? How much dancing is required of Kim?

I don't think Kim necessarily haas to be a blonde. Ours wasn't. In fact none of the productions of Birdie that I've seen had a blonde Kim. The fact that you are 20 is also ok, as long as you can believably play a 16 year old lookswise.
If you play ingenue roles then great, it sounds like Kim might be good. The level of dancing for Kim depends on the choreographer's vision of the show. In the production I was in, our Kim also had never studied much dancing but was fine in the role. In fact I don't remember her having to do that much dancing at all. She was in songs like A Lot of Livin', One Last Kiss, Honestly Sincere etc but didn't dance all that much during them because she was off doing other things. I'd have to really review my video to know what they used her for. In other productions I've seen, the Kim also didn't do much dancing. So hopefully this will work for you.

I'd say audition for the role anyways, what can it hurt to try?

I won't repeat what MsDivaKate wrote, but she's totally right! You should definitely audition for Kim, and it sounds like you've got a good shot at Ursula too (Kim's Best Friend)! Break a Leg!

And don't worry, I'm a brunette (lighter) with similar build to yours, and I was cast as Kim last week, and I flat out told my director I would need work on my dancing, but I was willing to do my best. So don't worry, if the director likes you, you'll get the part whether you can dance or not! Good luck!

The only blonde Kim i've ever seen is in the movie. It doesn't really matter. Our Kim's a brunette. She doesn't do much dancing at all, just the stuff with the teen chorus during Honestly Sincere and Lot of Livin' to Do.

I'd go for it.
