Should I audition with accent?

I'm auditioning for Mrs.Potts next week in my high school version of Beauty and the Beast. And we must sing a song from the show that the character we wish to potray sings or is in...etc. So I'm singing the title song, so should i sing with the english accent. I'm not sure because I wish to be considered for other roles also.

Thanks,
Ashley!

If you have your heart set on Mrs. Potts, and are really good at the accent, then I say go for it! It doesn't hurt to show that you're capable. And they know that you can speak with an American accent for the other parts (except Babette of course).

I wouldn't sing with the accent, but definately speak it when doing a cold-read.

The first time do it normal. If they want you to do it with the accent, trust me, they'll tell you. If they don't, don't freak out. They might already have all they need.

I'd say DON'T offer to do the accent. Like I said, if the director's want it, they'll ask for it.

The thing I always heard from experienced people is that you should never audition with a fake accent.

For the song...No.
For a reading...I'd ask "Would you like an accent?" and go from there.

I would say go for it. When I auditioned for The Secret Garden, I got the part of Martha cause I could do the accent. It's always a plus that you can do that accent!

Well, you kind of have a teeny British accent when you sing anyways, if you are classically trained. I mean like, singing "ahhh" instead of a piercing "rrrr." (Did that make sense? haha)

So, if you're good at pretending to be British, maybe play it up a little bit for the song, but just enough for the casting director to be like, "Hmm, I could work with that."

And for the reading of Ms. Potts, definitely do the accent (I repeat, if it's good!). Tell them you want to be considered for other roles, and when reading for them, sound as American as apple pie =]
Unless you're going for Babette, of course!

Aww...
My director laughed at me for saying one word like I was French...

Just ask.
That would be best.

I just had my auditions last week and since I was going for Maurice it didn't matter for me but some people attempted accents and failed miserably. One guy kept switching between a French and German accent for Lumiere.

Indeed

Definately have the accent. Honestly, your directors will know what part you are good for and if you dont give it your all you wont have as good of a shot at making a part, much less making the one you want. If you are the one for the job, they will know it

good luck :]
