She Loves Me?alrighty then....this is a pretty long one..."here goes..."SO! They finally, eh...UNofficially announced our high school's spring musical to be She Loves Me, and the auditions are Monday. It would've helped if they had informed us how auditions were to be held or...SOMETHING we know to expect, but thus far, they haven't (new director than the one I had last year). I heard a rumor that on Monday, they will teach us a part of a song from the show that we will sing later on by ourselves for the audition. I HATE cold singings. So, just so I can basically have a leg up on the competition, what songs from She Loves Me do you think we might be taught and asked to sing? IE, last year we did the Music Man, and all the girls at auditions were taught "Goodnight My Someone" and the guys did "Gary Indiana" (but I already KNEW GMS, so this is different). I just want to know what songs I should be listening to more than others. grazie! |

That show sounds very fun! I don't know anything about it either, but-
http://www.musicaltheatreaudition.com/shows/shelovesme.html this is a very good website for audition resources. There is one song that is an audition pick for Amalia(bottom right) that might be 'the' song to learn. In my "The Singers Musical Theater Anthology" book (soprano , vol 2) they have three songs form the show: I Don't Know His Name, Will He Like Me? and Dear Friend. Though none of these three is the 'audition pick' from that website, so who knows. Find the CD fast and listen to all of Amalia's and Ilona. |

Thanks for the help. I did what you said, but it turns out that they gave us a random song (something from "The Fantasticks", I think) and made us learn part of it, and then sing it 10 minutes later.
I kind of bombed it. Sorry if I don't perform sungs sprung on me randomly as well as I do if I'm in front of the audience with a piece I've been working on a long time. Cast list went up today. I was cut. For the first time since 6th grade. I cried. But I'll be working backstage, and I'm head of the House committee, so that'll keep me plenty busy the night of the show. It just... sucks... because my friend who is a self-proclaimed a AWFUL singer but okday actress got in. oh well... Thanks again. |

Im sorry to here that you got cut. I know it does suck. But its great that your head of the house. Crew is amazingly fun also. I have also respected and trusted the crew even more than the other cast members. Because lets face it you dont want to mess with that kind of power. The crew does so much for the show. In my mind the crew is the actual cake, the very foundation of it all, Actors are like the trimmed up iceing.
Cold reads are the worst. Nobody likes them. I don't think that they are very worth it unless you are learning your show in a small amount of time. In fact thats the only reason I think they are usful to see who can learn the music in a small amount of time. BUt don't worry cold reads get better with time and experience. Good luck on your show. |
