Seussical auditions TUESDAY!

So I found out that we're doing Seussical, but I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. Turns out my conflicts are fine and I WILL be able to do it! Trouble is, auditions are on Tuesday and I haven't prepared anything. I have the music from the show and generally with this theatre, singing from the show will land you a part before singing from other shows. I've got my eye on the Cat, but Horton isn't completely out of the question either. I've sung Alone in the Universe before, but I've never sung any of the other songs from the shows with my vocal instructor or for auditions or anything.

Any suggestions? Should I go with Alone in the Universe, or should I sing another song since I'm not necessarily aiming for Horton or Jojo. Thanks.

I'm not sure. Normally, you wouldn't sing a song from the show, but I sang Notice Me Horton for my Seussical audition and got Gertrude. I would say if you think Horton's the role you want, sing Alone in the Universe so that they can try to picture you in the role, but if you want to be the Cat, I wouldn't sing it just because singing a song from the show makes directors start to think of you as certain parts.

Would you recommend singing Oh The Thinks You Can Think, A Day for the Cat in the Hat, or How Lucky You Are?

You might also want to think about "Solla Sollew".

The audition is today and you don't know what you're singing? Lol d'oh!

No, as I said, it was a last-minute decision to do the show.

I sang Alone in the Universe. As there were only 3 guys who would be appropriate for the Cat, Horton, or Mr. Mayor, I'm almost guaranteed one of the three.

I have an audition for Seussical myself in a month or so, and I am a pretty range-y tenor. I can go up to a B flat so Horton sits nicely in the middle of my range. What would be some appropriate songs to sing for him?

Well, hurrah! I got Horton!

To Raptured, I sang Alone in the Universe, but this is at a theatre where singing from the show will usually get you a part over singing something else.

Congrats! Very Happy

Congratulations! My theatre's the same way, the director doesn't mind if you sing a song from the show. That's what I did and she didn't care.

But Alone in the Universe was a good choice, because it shows off Horton's character a lot more than his other numbers.
