Sets for Little Women

A local theatre group I work with is looking at doing a charity production of Little Women on short notice. I've never seen the show, and I've been asked to look into what we might do for sets. I don't have the script yet, so I don't even know how many settings are needed. HELP! Does anyone have any pictures of sets they used for productions of Little Women?

the production of "little women" i was in was at a small regional theatre in northern michigan, so our sets were mainly basic. i'm not much of a set person, so my descriptions to you would be basic as well, but if you'd like, i can give you the "lay of the land," so to speak. if you'd like to see pictures of our production, go to www.thunderbaytheatre.com - click on the scroll-down at the top to "past performances" and go to "spring 2007" on the left...choose "little women" and you will see the slide show. hope i can be of help...it's one of my favorite musicals!

Thanks so much for the information and link to the pictures. It looks from the pictures like most of the scenes take place inside the living room of a house with the exception of the one outside scene depicted. Are there any other major seetings?

What you need for Little Women is either step ladders or high heels...it tends to bring them up to the hieght of the taller actresses.

I don't know how elaborate you're willing to go, but ours became a three-tiered thing, the bottom (stage level) being the March family living room, a not very wide middle level which served as Aunt March's parlor and the boardinghouse and then the larger March family attic level. A narrow staircase ran up each side (with escape stairs in the back). The whole thing looked something like a giant set of three steps if that makes any sense. I think it worked fairly well. Besides the actual two levels built, there wasn't much else besides a sofa, some chairs, the usual.

Sounds interesting. Do you have any photos?

I can't find any pictures that make it clear what it looks like, sorry. If you don't understand something, I might be able to make it clearer...?

Thanks. I think I've got an idea that might work. It's a takeoff on your scheme, but would work like a split level house. I'm going to work with that.

TVAW - thanks for the link. I like the arbor. I've got sometining I could use for that if an outdoor scene is required.
