SETC Charlotte, September

anyone planning on going? I haven't submitted my app yet. Still hoping to book a gig during that time. Deadline is Aug 15, but they usually have enough room to take walk-ins after that date.

I'll be there. Bought my plane ticket yesterday.

I'm working on that online application thing. But I've got my room reserved, which I can always cancel at the last minute at no cost. Are you staying in the hotel? join the Omni guest program for free, and you get "Select Guest" hot coffee/newspaper brought to your room every morning. (the coffee maker is fine but I like the fresh milk they bring, plus the knock on the door is one more alarm clock back up)

the only "bad part" about joining those hotel clubs is you will be bombarded with snail mail credit card offers, tricking you into signing onto a high interest cc to gain more points towards a free hotel room. NOT WORTH IT. throw the cc apps in the trash, and drink up that good free coffee!!!

I joined last year so we could get late checkout. Love late check out. Smile
Chevstriss

I forgot about that. I just remember the woman knocking on the door with my tray each morning announcing "Select Guest"
Srsly

Not this one, but I'll be there at SETC in the spring.
Chevstriss

I might maybe hopefully might have a gig for sept. which means no SETC for me!! I'm on the "short list".

*fingers crossed*

ughhhh hope I haven't jinxed it.

I don't believe in jinxes.

ughhhhh I think I jinxed it. I shoulda heard by now. Even tho I was "considered" I'm guessing now the slot went non-eq (it was the smallest female role, covering all other females, at a theatre with no money. OF COURSE it would go non-eq. why was I kidding myself?)

so I'll probably be in Charlotte after all.

my color scheme for this event will be mint and blue-violet.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages about going in the fall vs. going in the spring? I was thinking about doing the spring one, since I think OCU is sending a whole big group out there...

students are not allowed at the fall one, you have to be full time professional. Which means there are about 75% less theatres there. In the spring, it is about 120 theatres looking for cheap summer stock labor.
wicked_diva

Ah, ok. Thanks.

So since I'm really pretty ignorant on all this, are there advantages/disadvantages to SETC vs. Strawhat?

Strawhat is completely non-eq, and very low paying jobs. some jobs are even NO pay.
wicked_diva

Oh, wow, I didn't no about the no pay! So is it probably better to avoid the expense of flying out to Strawhat and just do SETC? I'm pretty sure that even if I don't get a job onstage for next summer, I can always work with costumes at Lyric (in OKC), and I think that pays at least fairly well.
Chevstriss

don't bother with Strawhats unless you live in NYC and want out of NY for the summer
wicked_diva

Ok, thanks for the advice! Definitely not doing Strawhats now!
Chevstriss

ok I actually registered, paid, ready to go. I'm #80 - sunday morning. have to pick a monologue. I hate that part. But my nails will be a nice metallic deep red.
Chevstriss

crikey i STILL haven't decided on a monologue.

this spa is in the hotel.

I check in saturday afternoon - think I'll book a 30 min reflexology before jumping in the pool then dressing for dinner.

ug, so many monologues i'd do if i were you. The big long one I emailed you about ages ago in "Betty's Summer Vacation" or something from "Masterclass." I can't wait till I'm right for those monologues.
Chevstriss

I'm not comfortable doing monos at these big group things that I haven't done MANY times in front of a paying audience. no surprise reactions then.

I have changed my color scheme.

I will now be wearing deep brick and golden tan.
Chevstriss

I'm already checked in online, packed pretty much, got the oil changed.

3 mile walk at sunrise, pilates class, hit the tanning bed, then off to charlotte.

30 min massage, hit the pool, then off to cocktails and dinner.

audition sunday, hopefully before lunch
Chevstriss

convention is getting a wee bit of soaking today courtesy of Hanna.
