Serious help with headshots

Okay, so I've been out of pro theatre for a while, and I have mainly been doing community theatre because the rehearsal schedule is so much easier. Here's the problem, I have been asked to audition for the best pro theatre company in my area, and they have asked for a headshot, cover letter, and resume. It has been so long that I have to do new headshots. Do the directors still like to have your stats posted at the bottom of the picture, or is it okay to have a sticker on the back with that info? I also have a ton more dancing experience (former pro ballerina), and I don't know how to incorporate that in my resume. Whatever help you can give me, I would greatly appreciate. Thank you ahead of time.

I just have my name printed at the bottom of my headshot, then I print my resume directly on the back.

You might want to create a whole dance category for all your ballet roles.

You don't need any stats on the bottom of your picture...Just your name...(and I find that it's a good idea to attach a sticker with contact info to the back of your resume, in the strange case that your resume gets separated from your headshot) All your "stats" go on the top your resume.

Depending on your theatre experience, I wouldn't list your dance roles, but I would make a point to let them know that you will give them your pro dance roles upon request. I would most likely list the dance companies you have worked for under training or special skills...

This is why I just print 'em directly on the back- nothing to get lost!

(If you get your photo on the right kind of paper, you can just put it thru your computer's printer)

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! If you think of anything else, please post it. I am kind of shocked that they want to see me, because I have mainly done community theatre the last 2 years. Razz
Headshot . . . black/white or color . . . thoughts? My gut says black/white.

I don't like it printed on the back and besides, I'm hopefully going to constantly be changing my resume...but that's just me! LOL!

Oh, I print 'em on demand- that way I can update at will Smile

Oh, B&W, btw

Honestly, anymore...it's all about color! You would be surprised how much the industry has changed on that one! (When I graduated from college, color was a HUGE no-no!) But now, EVEN musical theatre is now in color! It all started in LA with film people, but it caught on out here in musical theatre circuits as well...

If you're getting new ones, go with color.

Ah...I see! I don't have that luxury!

If you are getting thm professionaly done and copies and stuff go color. It is all about color these days.

Well, so far I haven't been able to find a reputable photographer that understands what I want. I am going to talk to my vocal coach tonight and find out who did her. I was hoping to go on the cheap, but we'll see. I need them pretty fast, and nothing happens very fast around here. Confused

Being in Idaho you might want to stick with B&W- the Midwest is still pretty much in the dark ages- NOBODY does color here.
disneybeauty

Amen, sister! I am totally with you on that one. Theatre around me is not very progressive. I tend to think it's because Idaho is predominantly conservative republican . . . at least in Boise, everyone knows about the white supremacists in the northern pan-handle, and I have no idea what they think.
BTW. . . if anyone has a song they think would work, let me know. I posted on the audition song sticky, but alas, no response. I am a mezzo, but I have a really freakishly low range as well. I know I won't have a shot at a lead, but I still need a killer song. Almost forgot to say they are doing Little Shop of Horrors, in case I didn't say it earlier.
Thanks Mr. Green

We still get tons of B&W, but "everbody" (primarily guest directors from NY) say that color is what everybody should be using now. But I don't think it will make any difference particularly. Stats on the back, or your resume on the back, facing out if you staple (picture and resume back to back). If you've done a lot of ballet, I wouldn't list all the roles. I'd just put your years of training in that section with "over 20 full-length ballet productions" or something along those lines. If you've only done a few, list them in line with your musical theater stuff.
disneybeauty

Thank you, yes, I already put a note under special skills about all of the ballets I have done. Otherwise, my resume would be 3 pages long! Yikes, on all levels.
