Sequels to Annie

After the original run of Annie, lyricist Martin Charnin (in his infinite wisdom Rolling Eyes ) decided to sequelize Annie twice(!), both times with disasterous results. The attempts were "Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge" and "Annie Warbucks". Interestingly enough, the Annie trilogy is the only known work of Martin Charnin. Now. the first Annie, of course, is great (perfect, almost), so why did Charnin not only try to duplicate the success of the first Annie, but not try anything else other than about Annie?
Salome

Annie is far from Charnin's only work..

Two By Two is probably his best work. he and Richard Rodgers qwrote the show .it starred Danny Kaye..

other Chaarnin works:

I Remember Mama
The First
Madwoman of Central Park West
and
Zenda

And, I'm pretty sure that "Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge" was RETITLED as "Annie Warbucks". That's what it says on the MTI website. So they are the same musical.
madhatterster

There are many different songs and Miss Hannigan isn't in "Annie Warbucks"

Actually,

when Annie 2 was in previews, it failed miserably, people thought the story was horrible, and the songs weren't that great.

Annie Warbucks and Annie 2 are completly seperate musicals. Annie Warbucks is the show that "made it" where as Annie 2 sat on the cutting room floor.

There was also a sequel to the movie... I think it's called Annie Goes To London... or something like that.
happyguava

Yeah, isn't there a movie called "Annie 2"?

On the website of Music Theatre International (MTI):

Quote:
Did you know?

Annie Warbucks began life as Annie 2: Miss Hannigan’s Revenge (the marquee had even been put up at the Marquis Theatre in anticipation of the moppet’s return to Broadway).

So Annie Warbucks and Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge are NOT the same musical?

I'm confused! Laughing
Salome

Annie Warbucks is a revision of ANNIE 2.

Same as Grand Hotel :the Musical is a revised version of At The Grand.
SlayerRob

Annie is a musical that shouldn't have been made once, much less two and a half times! Smile
i'm_back

they should make a prequel. haha.

I've tried. and i failed miserably. It was "wicked"-inspired. It was everything chessy, corny, silly, stupid, and pointless. i titled it: "Frannie," the first name I gave to Ms. Hanningan. Yeah, I know, sounds stupid already. It was about how her mother was trying to marry her off to some rich dude, but she picked one of her own. And you guessed it, he was "poor as a mouse." But he became rich eventually, and him and Frannie used the money for good, opening up orphanages and a few schools across New York state. But he died, and Frannie went into a deep state of depression and started drinking, Therefore, she couldn't get a job, so she had to settle for running one of her husbands orphanages. Many people suggested that her husband should have been Oliver Warbux, or since I was killing him off, his brother. I wasn't into that though.

Just a note for the future Miss Hannigan's fisrt name is Agatha hence why Rooster calls her Aggie sometimes
