Senators?

Does anyone know why the authors of this show (or of the original story that it was based on) chose to make the perennially losing team the Washington Senators? The Boston Red Sox would seem like a more logical choice, given their longstanding rivalry with the Yankees.

Because the Senators were the worst team in baseball..far worse than the Red Sox.

and it wasnt the authors of the musical who did it..the show is based on a novella called 'The Year the Yankees Lost The Pendant".

Do productions in different cities change the team to their home team? For example, if there was a San Francisco production, they would be the Giants instead of the Senators?

The new production here in LA are changed the team to the Dodgers, so I'm wondering if it's a common practice or not.

^In my experience, yes.

They may do it if it is being staged in a major sports city. I have always seen it done with the Senators.

They couldn't have gotten the rights to it or something? It's directed by Jason Alexander. The production is supposed to be loaded with famous actors too but the only name I recognized was Ken Page.

That's lame to change it.

But interesting fact, the Senators then got bought out and became the Twins, which are from the best state in the union!
