Second Act Phantom TrickI was wondering during the last scene, just after Christian and Raoul leave his lair the phantom sits on his throne like chair and covers himself with his cape and then Meg enters, removes the cloak, and only the mask is there. How do they make the phantom disappear from the chair? Is it a trap door or does he sneak out through a hole in the back of the chair?

He sinks into the chair (it has a huge false back). If Meg had sat down on the throne, she would basically be sitting on his lap... hehehe.

Oh, good to know. I always wanted to know that. So when he sinks into it, is there something that covers him up? Because Meg picks up the cape and it looks like the chair, not Phantom's lap. LOL.

Yeah, he's basically seated INSIDE the chair.

that's pretty cool.
I remember when I went to see Phantom a few years ago with my Girl Scout troup (yes...a GS and proud)... the cast came back out onstage to talk to us (just my troup, that is...the audience left) about the show. Tres cool. because it was killing me to know, I actually asked the guy who played the Phantom at the time (couldn't for the life of me remember his name) how he disappeared like that. The cast kind of gave nervous glances at each other and sayed they couldn't say. It was frustrating. and it bothered me for years until now.
