Lazarus (Adam G)

Sebastian Bach

I just got a bootleg recording with Sebastian Bach as Jekyll/Hyde, expecting the amazing quality that Bach showed during 'This Is the Moment'.

My God was I wrong.

The Confrontation is a joke. He growls at himself, shouting most of his lines, and then yelling loudly at random moments.

This man cannot act.

He should stay the hell away from musical theater.
dcrowley

I would really like to hear Bach's J/H. Even if it is bad... Where can I find a you-know-what of his performance Question
Salome

I knew some people who went ot see Bach 3 times just for the joke value of his "performance"
Lord Moe

I didn't like his "This is the Moment" at all. He growls and yells some stuff and rocks out too much. I know that's what he does, but come on. This is a tenor power ballad, not a rock song.
Jesus

Definitly not a tenor power ballad. Definitly a baritone power ballad.

Some tenors pull it off really well, though.
Lord Moe

I don't know. It doesn't go extremely high, but the hard part of this song is the sustained notes that lie a little higher in the vocal range, which is why I classify it as a tenor song.
Ghost

Well, it does depend on the key.

The original version by Colm Wilkinson is DEFINATELY in a tenor key.

But the key they used on Broadway was more suitable for baritones.
Lazarus (Adam G)

Rob Evan sounds like a tenor, and he does great.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Evan. And yes, he does.
Marian

Where does one actually find that cd? I'd love to hear Sebastain sing.
Lazarus (Adam G)

You'd have to look for a bootleg. No 'official' recordings exist, at least not to the general public.

Jekyll should have stayed a tenor. Rob Cuccioli brought it down. Warlow's was lower than Wilkinson, but Robs is lower than Warlow's. I'm glad Rob Evan played it as a tenor on broadway. He invented the optional a flats in this is the moment and the key was raised a minor second after Robert Cuccioli left. But yeah, It's definatly a tenor power ballad and J & H should always be a tenor. Anyone can pull off Hyde right with the right speaking voice and acting, his notes don't go that low. But only tenors pull off Jekyll correctly. lol sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of Jekyll and hyde's speaking voices being the same.

Did you know that the original Jekyll / Hyde, Chuck Wagner, who appeared in the Houston world premier was a definately a baritone. I don't remember if he played the role before they recorded the Wilkinson / Eder album, but he certainly was the first to play the roles in a production. He has also played Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar so definately is no tenor.

Did you hear Chuck Wagner on the demo recording of Jekyll and Hyde doing Alive? Baritone, tenor, whatever is describing the voice tamber. not the vocal range. Cause mister Wagner hit some High B's to C's in the original key for alive. I'm saying Jekyll's songs shouldn't be taken down to fit a baritone and Jekyll should sound different from Hyde which Wagner somewhat succeded in. But you'll noticed Frank Wildhorn has short changed him with everything (Pimpernel, Dracula, Jekyll) just because he's good, but not quite good enough. Wilkinson was before Wagner and Warlow was during Wagner (they got the same cast, but replaced Wagner, with a tenor!!!)
Ghost

High Bs and Cs in "Alive"? I find that hard to believe.

The highest note i've heard sung in that song is the optional high-A at the end ("HYYYYDE!!") which Anthony Warlow does.

Where can I hear this demo?
Jekkienumber24601

(okay not c's after a second listen)

give me your email and I'll send it to you.

I also have the ballad of Jekyll and Hyde which is alot better than Facade, I'll send that too
Jackban

Me, ME!!! I want them too!=))
Please send demo with Chuck to me!

!

Thanks for demos!=)
Ghost

Yep, Thanks.
Ghost

Ok. I listened to it and there was not a single high B in there. a few As though.

Wagner certainly has wide range.

Ballad of Jekyll & Hyde I found pretty cheesy... I can see they they didn't use it. It may also have reminded people of the "Ballad of Sweeney Todd" a bit too much. I'm not saying they sound alike, but it would have been a pretty similiar concept and would have made the audience compare J & H to a much better show, which I doubt they wanted.
Jekkienumber24601

yeah, I remedy that there's no b's but I was exaggerating because that song in that key is a tenor song.
Ghost

Yes, it definately was in a tenor key.

Wagner did well, he just lacked edge. He was a little too bland.

It depends on who you see in the role. I never saw an official professional but I have seen parts of a community production (I'm backstage most of the time lacing corsets and hot-glueing masks) and the actor playing Jekyll/Hyde can produce a very different speaking voice. Why can't the professionals pull off different speaking voices?
Jekkienumber24601

I don't know. robert evan is perfect on the dvd with him, but unfortunately the production still suffered from weak script and no "bring on the men" and "I need to know"

They cut out "I Need to Know"?!

You mean the Prologue? That really sucks if they did.
Eponine93

I believe they keep parts of the prologue... "Lost in the Darkness" but that goes straight into Facade. I actually like how it goes into Facade from the "goodnight father" on the OBC recording, but that's just my humble opinion.
Jekkienumber24601

Broadway had lost in the darkness instead of I need to know. The liscenced version has both (which never works cause the songs end the same way) and the Warlow version which has never been staged has I need to know and no sick father plotline. My prefered version
