Saw Wicked Wednesday, April 8th @ 8PM - BWAY

During the intermission they announced a change in Elpheba well into the first act. Curious as to why that happened -- anyone know? And I didn't get the name of the replacement...??

The actress playing Elphaba probably got sick so her understudy went on.

Probably the stand-by, Jenny DiNoia.

"They announced a change in Elphaba well into the first act at intermission."

So at intermission they told you the Elphaba who started the show was not the one who did DG?

I believe what they said was that the role of Elpheba, beginning in the second classroom scene, was played by ______________. So, yes, that would mean that Defying Gravity was done by the replacement. The song, by the way, was spectacular -- we didn't realize the change of actors, but the voice was stronger and better than we expected from the Elpheba we were watching at the beginning of the show (Nicole Parker). Perhaps she was feeling poorly from the start.

You're not even spelling her name correctly.

Applause You are absolutely right -- the first time I did misspell her name -- I was more concerned with asking the question than checking the spelling. I THINK the second time I got it right. I promise to do better next time, Miss Hannigan.

No. And it's even been spelled correctly in other parts of this thread.

Haha, that's what I like about you!

Seriously, I would have been quite pissed off if the actress who played didn't finnish! If she was ill, she shouldn't have gone on stage in the first place!

Sometimes they don't realise how ill they are until they start trying to belt those songs - I think "The Wizard and I" would be a good indicator as to if you can carry on - though of course you can't make the change for about 30 minutes after that...

I wasn't pissed off that they changed the actress -- the actress that took over was fabulous. It was just disconcerting -- that's why I wanted to know if anyone here knew what happened.

Didn't expect it to be a highly-charged post -- I spell my OWN name wrong sometimes. I just joined this site yesterday -- certainly wasn't looking to argue or be nasty.

Please don't be put off too much by the grammar police. Most of the time we're pretty friendly here. BTW, I've been known to run afoul of them myself at times.

Thanks for the comforting words, Dad! I am relieved. Maybe someone needs to send her flowers or something -- maybe send her for a massage...
