Sarah Rice/Johanna Question

I found her voice pretty but rather irratating after a while...she sounded too much like a trilling bird. I was just wondering, If that is what Johanna, in general souds like, or whether it depends on the actress. I've always been curious about Lisa Vroman, for example. I really liked her in the clips I saw of the Hey Mr. Producer! show in which she played Christine to Colm Wilkinson's phantom. She sounded very much like Rebecca caine, my absolutely favourite Chrisitne. Anyway, I was wondering if Vroman's singing was similar in anyway to her Johana perfpormance, because i do love her as Christine. Are there other Johanas I might like?

she should sound like that., Rice and even moreso BVetsy Joslyn really captured the characters slightly mad..birdlike nature.

Sarah Rice is my favorite Johanna. She just captures that pure, unspoiled, glistening flower image that I think the character needs. I also like that she plays (or played) the character as neurotic but not crazy, ala Joslyn.

As for Lisa Vroman, she is a spectacular vocalist, with a warmer voice than Rice, and as Christine Daae in the Lloyd Webber version of Phantom she is incredible (definitely the best I have ever seen in that role). However, I found her acting in the concert version of Sweeney to be very flat and uninspired. Plus, she was over 40 years old when she did the concert version, and while this wouldn't usually bother me as an audience member, it just doesn't read well with the abundance of close-ups on the DVD.

My favorite is Lauren Molina from the 2006 revival. I think she really captured the young, innocent Johanna with her soft and pure voice.

Lauren Molina was the most drab, boring Johanna I ever saw. Yawn.
The REAL Ciaron

Sondheim meant for Johanna to be a joke. Her and Anthony. So the crazier the better!!

No wonder Johanna (Betsy) was so crazy on the 1982 DVD! Laughing

I kinda liked her acting though. She was really funny at some parts.
