Sarah meets Adelaide???

Seriously...what is up with this song?!?!?!?!?!?

I can't stand it! It's weird, it sounds funny, and it's akward....and I actually heard that the orchestration had to be changed for the recording because it was so messed up!

BUT, my director is refusing to cut the song! Me, the girl who plays Sarah, and the music director/conductor all hate the song, but they won't cut it!!

ARG!

Oh, well....at least we get to follow it up with Mary the Man which is one of my fav songs in the show!

No, no, no, no....I LOVE "Marry the Man Today"!!

There is a song in the score called "Adelaide Meets Sarah" that opens up the scene before they sing "Marry the Man". It's this super funky version of Sarah reprising "I've Never Been in Love Before" in a weird minor key over a super low reprise of "Lament" with different words. It's in a funny key and the songs don't really go together at all. The rhythm is weird and I just don't get it!

It's on the cd of the full score version.....done in 1996 I think.

I'm coming from both sides of the spectrum on this. I am a director and an actor. As a director, I hate cutting things, it was the playwright's final say on how they wanted it done and if you attach that name everthing should be done as given to you in the script (except MTI because that have way too many typos). As an actor I see why people would want to cut things because some times it's too difficult or whatever. Just remember that the director is the boss and whatever they goes. And ya never know, if by tech week, it still is not running very well, your director may make the decision to cut it. In other words...just grin and bear it Neutral

I think it's awful. Me and the girl playing Adelaide can both sing it okay, but it just sounds really weird.

The first time I heard this song, I didn't know what to think of it. I must admit that on the MTI accomaniment CD it sounds pretty strange. But the more I have worked on it, the more I like it. I think the main thing that I concentrate on when singing it is that I sing it softly, more to myself. Adelaide and I aren't worrying to much about the exact note values. This song is more like talking than singing. Especially for Adelaide. I think it's a nice transition from "the guys follow the fold" into the next scene- IMO

: )
