Sarah audition

I'm a graduating senior and I'm auditioning for the part as Sarah Brown in a summer community theater. I want the part so bad! I think it would be awesome to end my high school acting career with a bang.... but I also know there are a lot of very very talented girls who want the part as well. I really want to make myself stand out from all the other talent at my audition. Can anyone offer me any advice? I want to know which song I should do for my audition (I've been leading towards "I'll Know" because of the vocal range). I would also like any suggestions on how to prepare for the audition and any insight into Sarah's character from people who have taken on the role. Thanks so much!

If I was you, I wouldn't do something from the show itself, unless it's specifically asked for. Of course, I was an idiot and disobeyed that rule, but it doesn't mean you should! Laughing

I think you should really look into something from the Music Man, preferrably something sung by Marian's character. It shows off Sarah's high notes and kind of mirrors her personality.
Sweeney Hyde

Do "Yours, Yours, Yours" from 1776. It would really relay Sarah's feelings and situation I think. Plus it is a beautiful song from a show that I think is forgotten when it comes to picking auditions songs. None of the songs from it are overdone. "He Plays the Violin" would also work if you want a more up tempo song.

Best of luck in your audition, I'm playing Sarah at the moment and it's a wonderful part and loads of fun. I hope you get it and make sure you let us know if you do.

Thanks for the ideas! I agree that some of the songs from the Music Man might work really well and I had never heard yours yours yours before, but I listened to it and that one could be really good too.... hmmm it gives me something think about. Thanks again!

oh, and to Sweeney Hyde.... that's cool that you're auditioning for Cinderella. I did that musical when I was in 8th grade and it was a lot of fun! Hope that goes well for you Very Happy
