Sally Ann Howes and Marni Nixon in new tour of MY FAIR LADY

Sally Ann Howes has been confirmed to play the role of Mrs Higgins in the new tour of "My Fair Lady" (which kicks off in Tampa, Florida, on September 12).

Ms Howes famously replaced Julie Andrews on Broadway in the original production of "My Fair Lady" in 1958. Her other theatre credits include "Paint Your Wagon", "Bet Your Life", "Romance in Candlelight", "The Sound of Music", "Kwamina", "What Makes Sammy Run?", "Brigadoon", "The King & I", "A Little Night Music", "Hans Andersen", and "James Joyces' The Dead".

Sally Ann Howes is scheduled to stay with the tour through to January, at which point Marni Nixon will take over the role of Mrs Higgins. Marni is no stranger to the show either, having dubbed for Audrey Hepburn in the film version, and later playing Eliza on stage for several stock revivals.

The cast of "My Fair Lady" also features Christopher Cazenove as Higgins and Lisa O'Hare as Eliza (Dana DeLisa will play Eliza at selected performances). It's based on the successful London National Theatre staging, directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Matthew Bourne.

I just wish it were Anthony Andrews as Higgins.
Norma Desmond

Yes, he was a superb Higgins. I've heard lots of good things about Lisa O'Hare while she was doing "Mary Poppins", and the rest of the cast sounds great, too.

I wonder how scaled-down the set designs are going to be, lol.

Christopher Cazenove is best remembered for having played Charlie Haslemere in the 1970s BBC-TV series "The Duchess of Duke Street", opposite Gemma Jones's Louisa (Leyton) Trotter.

Oh wow!

i'm /hopefully/ seeing this in December!

Although one of my friends says, "You can't have My Fair Lady anywhere but London!" and "Tsk tsk tsk" that I'm seeing it in the US.
Salome

youre freind doesnt know what he is talking about. a;though MFL is set in London and starred Brits originally. it was written by Alan Jay Lerner..an American.
dantheman

Oh I used that argument...failed. Especially when he brought the Speech and Debate teacher involved.

We've kinda dropped the huge Broadway vs. London argument.

However, the irony of the whole thing is he is American because he was born in the US but moved after he was 10 days old.

Dantheman: that's great!! i need to bug my mom about tickets.

Yay! They are AWESOME! When I went to NYC for my 13th birthday, My uncle took me to the Algonquin (idk if I spelled it right) to see the cat and It was a topic in my english class and Sally Ann Howes was there! I didn't get to talk to her but I remember my uncle said "That's the original Truly Scrumptious." Cause that's the only role I knew her as at that time.

I hope the tour comes around my area1 I'd LOVE to see My Fair Lady!

Oh and to confirm...

I'm seeing the National Tour of MFL at the end of this month for certain.

I CAN'T WAIT! Very HappyVery Happy

There's an MFL production going in TO too, presented by a relatively new production companay, Dance-Cap...They're also putting on Drowsy Chaperone and Avanue Q and a bunch of other shows, in order to successfully compete with the Mirvish Company, which runs the larger theatres...I don't quite know the deatils about the TO show, through.
Not Dead Yet

Sally Anne Howes was fantastic. I came back from seeing her for the last performance of the tour in Miami. I didn't get to see Lisa O'Hare, but her understudy Dana DeLisa was alright. Loved Tim Jerome as Alfred Doolittle, he was probably my favourite. And amazing vocals by Justin Bohon as Freddy.
SuperKabob

I saw it a few weeks ago. Tim Jerome almost literally stopped the show. Everyone else was alright, except for Sally Ann Howes who was superb. Overall, the show was great, but I think that was partially becuase it IS My Fair Lady.

And I have it from an inside source that Christopher Cazenove has gone on drunk more than once. Don't know wether to be appalled or amused.
Salome

ohh.. I didnt know Tim Jerome is Alfie. Love that man!
SuperKabob

He was probably the best thing about the show. The part is aready written to be awesome, but he was simply amazing.
