Rumpleteazer tail

Does anyone have a good picture of the video style Rumpleteazer's tail? Or a fan-made tail inspired by the video Rumpletezer?

I love CATS (although all I've been able to see is the video) and I'm kind of thinking ahead to Halloween. Right now I'm not in good enough shape to feel comfortable wearing a unitard, but hopefully by October I should be. So for now, I figured I'd go ahead and start with a tail and I'd like a picture to help inspire me and help me figure out the colors/pattern.

I have half a tail that I started making a year or two ago for my rumpleteazer costume. What *I* did was just mix mostly white with orange and black and tied it on my tail braid. The plan was to then make the last few inches white and trim to my likeness.

You can also go the calico way and make it more stripy and rotate through colours. Or, if you're daring and skilled enough, you can cascade your patches so it's not rings of colour, but patches of colour.

good luck. Sorry i have no pictures. Try the Cats Costuming Board.

I am playing Rumpleteazer in a local production of Cats, and my tail is pretty cool....it's inspired off of the DVD/video, I believe. It's mostly white, with orange and black mixed in (Mungo's is mostly black with white and orange). It's made of yarn mostly.

When I get a picture taken of myself in costume, I can post it so you can see the tail.

Thanks. I saw one on the coustuming board and decided I liked more of a stripy/banded pattern than just random color so I just dove in and started making my tail last night. I have to say it wasn't nearly as time consuming or difficult as I thought it would be. The whole thing took just over 2 hours. It also turned out quite a bit fluffier/thicker than the video tails (but that's okay because a bigger tail helps the butt look smaller. Mr. Green ).

Here's a couple pics:

I might have to go back & replace the yellow with something a little darker, but I was just using scraps (I do a lot of afghan crocheting) and the only other yellow I had was really bright. Overall, though, I'm pretty pleased with it.

athena_eleni: I'd still love to see a pic of your costume when you get it.

Okay, that really light yellow was bugging the heck out of me so I dug through my scrap yarn bin and found some yellow that was a little darker. I went back and removed all the light yellow and replaced it with the darker stuff. It was a pain in the butt to do, but I like how it looks a lot better now. I also made a braided belt.

I too did my tail the same way as tmg. Except it was a Mungo tail. I based my Rumpleteazer tail out of the DVD one, and it's half a cord tail with some fluffier parts. I don't have shots of the actual DVD Rumple, but here are my tails.

I hope this helps ^^

Yeah, that bottom one is pretty close...but do you still want a screen cap?

Nah, that's okay, I got my tail done. I'm starting to work on a wig now.

I do have a question about yarn wigs, though. Pretty much all of the yarn wig instruction sites say to use pantyhose as the base and attach the yarn to that. I started my wig like that (only have about a square inch done so far), but it doesn't seem like pantyhose is the sturdiest thing for a base. So I got thinking, what if I crocheted a skull cap (using a small/tight stitch & fine yarn/string) and tied the yarn for the hair to that? Has anyone tried that? It seems like it would be a lot sturdier and a little easier to do the spacing of the hair.
