RUMBLEPURR'S FANFICTION UPDATE

For those interested in my FanFiction Site...

October 17, 2009 Update - sorry about being late:

THE NEW JELLICLE CHRONICLES
BOOK SIX -- Chapter Five -- Take my Breath Away

The Circle's Demeter has a 'discussion' with Persephone... In Black Harlem, Exotica is about to give birth while Artie is entertaining... Sarah is awake and is finally talking with Tumblebrutus. The only problem he faces is that Sarah asks him to bathe her... Deme asks Marie to take her to the Tavern after overhearing the receptionist talking about her pregnancy. When she is hurt getting off a bus, Deme is unexpectedly helped by a human woman... Tugger is not happy that Exotica is still missing. And the Halloween party is surprised by a set of party-crashers...

Chapter Six -- Tears in Heaven

Cayran and Exotica are not happy, and Tugger is the cause until he talks to Cicero... A few private moments occur during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Cettie finds a comfortable human, Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer have some interesting ideas, Natasha meets with Leroy, and Tumblebrutus double dates with Plato... At the dinner, Munkustrap still has more problems. First he knows Deme is near, and Artie is causing Bombalurina some concern. Still, he finds that the day still has some somber thoughts of thankfulness... Thanks to Murray, Artie will soon be out of Bomba's space...

Exotica giving birth? Shocked sounds like this is some years after the musical events? Cool

Clarification

My fanfiction is a "Series", meaning that time passes by with each chapter. Each "Book" is a Year, and each "Chapter" is a month. When I began this series, the First "Book" was the Jellicle Ball that is seen in the show. In this case, Book SIX means that five years have passed since the Jellicle Ball. So... Cool

BTW - the gestation period for a house cat is about 65 days - a bit over 2 months. Humans come in at about 9 months. When the universe that TNJC was discussed, we decided that 5 months - a bit in-between - was the gestation period for a Jellicle Cat.

Resepctfully,
Rumblepurr Cool

Are you, in terms off time, considering them cats or humans? (as we know humans live longer than cats and have different timescale on matureness and stuff)

By the way your writing sounds fun to me, is there a link or something?

To get to my website, click on the WWW button in my reply. otherwise, it is:
www_dot_jelliclechronicles_dot_org (remove the '_dot_' and replace with a '.')
Technically, I have a Setting page and an FAQ to answer such questions.

The origin of The Jellicle Chronicles and most everything on my fanfiction website came from a series back in 2000 called The Jellicle Tribes written by Ahdeya. Three authors (add RIO) collaborated to create a Jellicle universe...

The Jellicles were designed to be anthropomorphic - Cat-humans. In the Junkyard of TJC and on the sidewalks of New York (TNJC), Jellicles are approximately two feet (61cm) tall and have human form with cat characteristics. Because no one ever heard of Jellicle Cats until TS Eliot wrote Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, I go so far as to place a 'Glamour' upon them. Humans can only see them as House Cats... Because they are special and have anthropomorphic qualities, they blend human and cat traits. Thus, a gestation period between 2 and 9 months. Their average lifespan is 25 years (cat = 15 and human = 75)

Although the stories do explain the evolution of the Jellicle, I can summarize what this world (story) has happen.

Their homeworld exists in the Greater Magellan Cloud, and they are nearly 2 meters tall or better. Here they are called Yealika. A warlike race displaces them with Pollicles... and their planetary spirit manages to send 25 of them (essentially the CATS cast) to Earth during the reign of Seti I (Ancient Egypt). They exist in Egypt until the Roman Empire's invasion. At that time a survival spell is cast that splits the Yeahlika into a human being (with a Jellicle Soul) and a Jellicle Cat. The Jellicles remain hidden until an individual named Redtail influences a poet (TS Eliot) to write about Jellicles, and then a composer (ALW) to write the music for CATS. Jellicles by now live world wide. The popularity of CATS create zones in centralized spots, and draws the Jellicle souls to them. Then, just before the First Tribe (which is the cast that constantly is reborn every fourth generation) begins to die of natural causes, the planetary spirit of the Yeahlika creates a retrieval spell. At that point, all Jellicles and a few humans with Jellicle souls area called back to the Homeworld... Thus the cast of the 20th Anniversary Tour becomes the very characters they played... only now, everything is real and it works...

So, our small group blames Ahdeya for the entire Jellicle Universe she created. To follow the path, you read ANCIENTS, TJC, and PREQUELS (in that order) to get to Ahdeya's THE JELLICLE TRIBES...

I haven't had a chance to read the newest 4 chapters (saving them for when I have to babysit this weekend) but I love all of your stories. I did notice on your last update of the TNJC Playbill that you left out Natasha and Cicero's kitten (Doran). I'll be very sad when TNJC comes to an end.

Thanks

Thank you for pointing out the exclusion of Doran from the Playbill. I have corrected the oversight...

Interesting that my stories become the means to pass the time babysitting. But then, I am glad you enjoy the stories. At to TNJC ending, that is still a full 9 books away. Year 14 will only have a couple of chapters, but it would not do to end in Book Thirteen... Cool At the rate I am going, it takes me 3 months to complete a year. So, TNJC will go for another two years at the very least...

I read a couple of the chapters from book one (the ball) and it was really good writing that I gonna read more off if when I found time. If Ive ever found a story thats worth a fanfiction movie its this one...

As a star trek fan Id like the idea of having the Jellicles being aliens from another world and could well imagine a script plot or two around that idea... Surprised

As for future story plots (If you havent used it already!) I cant get this synopsis out of my head so feel free to use it if it fits in:

"Macavity has finaly found an enemy worthy his evil skills, an nemesis so threatening to the tribe that old D even begged him to come to the aid of the Jellicles and use all his contacts in the under world of humans and cats to stop the new enemy. So while Macavity found himself in the unusual role as unofficial leader of the effort to counter this enemy he still admire his or hers skills as the cats must join all theire skill and cunning just to survive..."

Sorry if I steped on youre foot but I felt I had to get it out of my mind... Wink

Other ST Parodies

All the Star Trek Parodies and Related stories:

SPECIALS: The Open Barn Door - ST: TNG

LOST STORIES: Nine Lives; One Life Too Many (Both ST: Voyager)

PARODIES: All of these can be found in the PARODIES page.
TJC: Star Cats (Year Two - Chapter 7) - Star Trek
Farout Station (Year Four - Parody) - ST:TNG
Deeply Spaced Nine (Year Five - Parody) - ST:DS9
Equalnuts (Year Six - Parody) - ST: Voyager
STAR WRECK (PARODIES) - Star Trek 2009 movie

As to the plotline you have - that sounds like something for someone else right now. My present series has Macavity as a cold and calculating businessman, and Old Deuteronomy is already gone Heavyside... However, you may have inspired me to have someone starting to thwart Macavity's plans a bit more than he is used to.

I should read through the different sections more carefully b4 proposing anything... Embarassed I read that one and I missed what I liked the best from the star trek parody, the cats nagging and talking about everything but the script Smile Laughing

What Ive readed so far get me to the conclusion that all this must end up to some really amount of writed material! Have you ever thaught off writing some sort of movie/theater script on this?

I have just scumed a bit on the surface but what I am curious about is how much you have done on the cats (and primarly Grizabella) lifes previous to the musical events?

And lastly, have you anything planned for the life after TNJC? Maybe they could find themselves on a starship exploring strange new worlds and boadly go where no man has gone before... d'oh! Maybe not. Wink Twisted Evil
Rumblepurr

Life after TJC & TNJC

The problem with doing ANYTHING with fanfiction like this is that Really Useful Groups, Ltd., Cameron Mackintosh, T.S. Eliot (his Representatives and 2d Wife Valerie), and Andrew Lloyd Webber have copyrights on the musical and the characters. Thus, anything having to do with the musical is restricted. As long as I recognize that my website and stories are "unofficial" and that I am not making any profit from the stories, the Powers-That-Be will pretty much leave me alone. At one point, I was informed that websites that deal with CATS cannot use the "CATS eyes" and the CATS "font".

As for what happens AFTER TJC and TNJC end? They do not stay on earth. However, they are not on-board an ark or spacecraft of any means. Without spoiling the transition, the Cast of the PREQUEL line, and the Jellicles of TJC, HH, and TNJC are taken to a Homeworld. Here, the "cast" characters have to rediscover themselves - this is taken over by Ahdeya's THE JELLICLE TRIBES. At the end of that series, I created another Homeworld series called BEYOND THE CHRONICLES (BTC)...

The only time a Jellicle is on a starship in my story set is two LOST Stories that briefly visit the USS Voyager in the Delta quadrant...

Yea copywright is always an issue... And maybe its just to much written stuff to fit into a theathre/movie anyway but Id love it as a part of fanfiction movie Smile

My idea wasnt so much post TNJC but making a story series off its own right... Wink

Alien cats? Shocked Interesting. lol

Ugh if it's true about the eyes then I'm going to have to come up with another way of identifying different tribes on my site. Right now I just have the eyes in different colors but since noone other than myself and a couple of staff members can log in noone else can see them yet.

The CATS eyes and the font CATS is created from are considered logos, and that was at least one of three I remember being mentioned. The main thing RUG wants is for websites NOT to appear "Official" and to NOT attempt to make a profit off of the site. Example: I cannot sell my fanfiction books for say $20 a volume...

I have not heard of RUG really going after someone for small infractions because the processing is too much trouble. Fan sites usually do not have much money involved. However, I believe a few people have been warned by RUG that they are being watched...

Thrue and if youre any bit creative you can probably come up with something thats clearly cats but not copywrighted. In star trek we cant use the starfleet badges or logos for example but we can use simular looking things with its own distinct feeling, but still star trek. Wink
Heavylove

A random question here: Whenever you have the cats wearing human clothes (as in the parodies) what on earth do they do with theyre tails? Confused Or do you assume the clothes is adopted to fit cats? Wink
Rumblepurr

See This...

Yes - when I 'clothe' the CATS in the Parodies and later on the homeworld, the clothing is adapted to allow for the ears and tail. In the parodies, the clothing is very human orientated whereas the Yeahlika Cat is a tad more open and not as covering. The Yeahlika adult has fur covering the 'erogenous' zones such as the breasts and pubic and the male parts. Generally, the Yeahlika wear protective clothing for the weather as well as working. For example, the Yeahlika Blacksmith would wear a heavy leather frontal apron, a thick tunic, heavy gloves, and boots that almost cover the knees. Reason? Lots of red-hot metal flying around... and fur does not like that... For travel, Yeahlika would wear a hooded cloak, leggings and possibly some sort of loincloth - anything for protection if they were walking, and trousers if they were riding...

This link is to a relatively new web comic called RUNNING WILD and you can get an idea from one of the 'rear' shots of Annie, the main character here. Notice right at her 'belt line' above her tail? There is a 'snap closure' that acts as a mini-belt for the tail. Most anthro artists who 'clothe' their characters place a snap closure and an opening in a place where the tail is put through, and then the belt is snapped into place, securing the base of the tail. This is pretty much how the costumes would fit on my Parody Cats. In the ANCIENTS, the headdress worn by Munkti and Cassie allow their ears to poke through. When Munkustrap wears armor in BTC the Helmet requires his ears to be flat on his skull.

In the Parodies, the effect of human clothing on the Jellicles is looked upon the same manner as if it is being worn by humans. Thus, a well-built lady wearing lingerie and Bombalurina wearing the same outfit would have the same effect on the male of the species... maybe even cross-species... Cool

Problem there is getting close without getting too close to the copyright. Star Trek seems to cover a wide range of identities. Look at the variety: Star Trek (1967 version), ST:TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager... Even if you pump up the technology as they did in Star Trek (2009), the characters, the ships, the logos are just too identifiable. Try to get something like Star Trek on the market is bound to get knocked about by fans of the show before the owners get to you.

However, I do have a series of stories that I called "The Old Ones Saga" about a race of cats modeled after the Mountain Lion (Felis concolor). This race of predators was bio-engineered to populate a planet so it would basically be left alone while a humanoid race looked for a suitable world to fit them. There is a lot more to the explanation, but I wrote this series long before I even had a desktop computer. I think the printouts are from my old TRS80 computer from Radio Shack. Any 8088 people out there? Thus, I do have a planet of cat-people that do not fit the CATS copyright. Trouble was, no one was interested then... If I can possibly get a foot in the door somewhere, I might be able to resurrect the stories from the hardcopy, and sell them... The closest this gets to a copyright is that I patterned a human spaceship after a warship featured in a RPG called Traveller.

I know what you mean... getting to close to the star trek world (even if its just by using theyre world) is a big NO NO in any writers club. Thats why you have lots of hyperdrives but no warpdrives out there to take one example. Wink

I found a story where Voyager rans into Macavity and that was really well written apart from I didnt found out what the buzz was about the names related to Cats in the end (probably I read it through a bit to fast thou...)

You said earlier that the cats in JC and TNJC was the original casts transformed into theyre caracters and that got me a bit curious about:
*What did the persons involved feeled when theyre were transformed, or were about to be transformed?
*Does the cats has any memorys off theyre previous lifes?
*Have you ever heard any off the persons involved expressed any feelings for or against that idea?

By the way I "thefted" youre idea of having cats as actors (No, no one of the cats caracters even thou one of the cats is maybe a bit to interested into Cats for her own best...) for a theater play I am writing if you dont mind... So far it turned out preatty good. Twisted Evil

Questions

*What did the persons involved feel when they're were transformed, or were about to be transformed?

The creative team in the Homeworld never discussed the merging process per se. Some felt the the static of the electrical process. Others probably felt a sort of vertigo. After that, the merging process might have felt like something slipping into you physically and mentally. In the first chapter of The Jellicle Tribes, the performer who played Misto (Jason Gray) awakens, and realizes that he is now MISTO... Same with everyone else. My concept is that each part of the merge would see the world from their POV and just realize that they are now a real live Jellicle Character that is human sized and they have additional memories...

Heavylove wrote:
*Does the cats has any memories off their previous lives?

They have selective memories of all three persona. However, the human memories seem strange because of the Yeahlika world. Not all of the 'human' persona care for being 'drafted' to become Yeahlika...

Heavylove wrote:

I am not sure whether you are referring to readers, or the characters in TJC and TNJC or even HH. No reader has commented either way. Also, I have not heard from any cast member to my knowledge... As to the characters, several of the characters complain at the beginning of their conversion. Plato has a problem because his human part was an Anglican Vicar. The Christian faith does not exist on the Homeworld, and yet, here he is... Others just remember responsibilities of family, loved ones, children, pets, careers...

Hope that helps out...

I was more thinking off if you had any feedback from the actual actors/acters? I could imagine it would feel preatty strange to be involved in this kind off fan fiction even thou it would be interesting in the same time...

By the way I have only been able to track down a few off the "star trek" episodes (Deeply spaced nine, voyager Equinox and the Macavity one) but havent got any hold off the rest. Is it possible get a link either here or on the pm? Question

And no... To my knowledge, I have never had any performer comment in any manner on my fanfiction. From what I have heard, performers do NOT read fanfiction at all. For some of them, they just do not have the time. Now if you are an artist, they love you. I read "one life to many" and that give me a nifty idea of an interesting holodeck program... Some one on Voyager thinks its a good idea to do a holodeck programme based on the famous musical Cats and ofc thats got a little bit wrong, either its transforms the crew into Jelicles or the Jelicles in the programe got self awereness. Would be fun to see Janeway as a cat... hmmm. Twisted Evil Did i said I like to write?

Tailkinker is the pen-name for one of my series' authors, and she adopted it after reading, believe it or not, "UHURA'S SONG" by Janet Hagan. The character of Tailkinker came into TJC around Year 4, and she is a cream and white Queen who has the Healing Gift. We had a running gag about "Kinker" jokes, and the parodies are rife with them.

As to Vickie? In the regular CATS stories, her character is always so prim and proper that a kick-ass 'in-your-face' attitude just seemed the ticket. In the 'Hairy Putter' series, she is Madame Pooch, the Broom Instructor... THe visual of her being Yar was too good to pass up...
