Rules for ContentWhen choosing an audition song/monologue, obviously you need to choose something that fits your age, type as well as what you're auditioning for. However what are the rules as far as content concerning religion, race, orientation, sex references or other i suppose controversial topics? For example, would some songs from Ragtime be unacceptable due to the fact that they could be racist?

The main thing you want to remember is that you want everyone in the room to be comfortable. Don't pick a monologue that says F&*k every other word. Yes, it's how a lot of people talk today, and there's a lot of stuff written with swears, but you don't want to go in there and swear at them. If you have a chance to make them laugh and make them feel comfortable, it will make you enjoy your audition more and make you feel comfortable as well. In the end, they'll appreciate it. How would you feel if 15 actresses in a row came in and told you to "Go to hell!"? Not too good. What song/monologue are you thinking about

nothing in particular, i was just wondering in general. basically i was thinking about the time i was in the auditorium with a mostly black cast and one of th four white people in the room sang part of Willie Conklin's solo from Ragtime. I myself felt uncomfortable and i was wondering if there was a general rule of thumb?
