RPGs?

Cats RPGs were the first I ever joined and RPing has continued to be the main part of my online life ever since. I know most of them have become inactive and died now, and those that haven't don't seem to have very many decent characters left.

But what if there were a "big" RP starting completely from scratch? Would people be interested in one of those? Because I've been planning one on and off for the past 6 or 7 years and I have the coding and resources and so on to do it. I just want to make sure that there would be some interest before I put in hours of work setting anything up.
Flitterbug

Oh, sure, you'd get plenty of interest. Young girls and the creatively challenged will flock to join, picking off their favourite character and then flooding the rest of the board with OCs. Just bear in mind that romance is the sole intnetion and your bad guys will be about as scary as a frosted cupcake.

Of course, you may like that sort of thing. I'm just bitter because I can never find any sort of RPG that conforms to the standard of game play that I like.

If there was an RPG that was truly dark, truly full of the grit that it claims to have, then I would have no problem jumping in part way through. But there are no Cats RPGs of that description. Those that claim to be dark are more like a very pale shade of gray.

Before anyone goes jumping down my throat for the above, let me say again: I'm just bitter.
Moongewl

I feel like the heyday of Cats RPGs has passed--there was a surge of interest in the years following the video, and I was part of a few good Cats RPGs. One of the better ones was an invite-only RPG, which is a good way to ensure quality. But that doesn't mean people aren't out there wanting to play.
I'm sure there is still a fanbase out there for it. Assuming you would have some storyline ideas to guide the RPG, and know some good places to advertise, I'd bet that a good Cats RPG could find adequate interest. Best of luck to you.
And ignore Flitterbug. She's like those people that tell you never to get married because they're divorced and that means you are going to get a divorce too. (And I can say these things because I like Flitterbug and also because I'm a jerkface.)

RPGs

As part of MsJellicle's Jellicle Emergence, I had a good time for a while... The problem with the Internet RPG is getting everyone to constantly post. Some people (Yours Truly) have all the time in the world to post. Each morning, you would go in, turn on the computer, click the bookmark, and your task was done... Other people have all sorts of tasks that take their up time, and they are lucky to get a day/hour off to even "think" about playing... We had some excellent players, but our cast varied daily, it seemed. I believe the game finally halted last year after a fairly good run.

I think Moongewl is right about the fan base being at an ebb right now. Without CATS having a base like Broadway or West End, and a tour visiting only once or maybe twice a year, people only get so much interest for only so long... Part of that led to the stoppage of TJE. I just hope that MsJ enjoyed the storyline that came from all the various characters that filled her game for that short time...

One other factor to consider is the interaction timeframe. For Role-Playing Games to really work, you almost need real-time posting. Games like AD&D are best played at the table or in some sort of network where the game flows as each event occurs. Or, you need a certain timeframe promise such as players can join the game only if you can submit your turn before midnight, or some agreed time.

Respectfully submitted,

Heh, that's not true. I would never tell someone not to get married... I would say that I didn't approve, but I wouldn't tell them not to. Which is pretty much my stance on stuff to do with fandoms as well.

Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. It just means I don't like it. ^_^

Peritombry

Dark was the intention and dark it will remain. I got rather sick of the fluffiness in some of the RPs I came across too. I stick by TSE's response to Disney. Smile

When I look at an RP I don't go anywhere near it if it's quality isn't at a certain level and if that level drops or later turns out to be lower than it first appeared then I leave. I've been writing RPs for almost eight years now and good quality writing, character development and plots are extremely important to me. If it's not worth doing well, then it's not worth doing. So I don't think you'd have to worry too much about that.

The current lower level of interest is really the only thing that bothers me. I'm rather hoping that those who used to RP will rush back in a flood of nostalgia. Razz
Spanish_Rumple

I love RPGing but I'm getting too tired of those youngsters that plan everything with their characters and don't even let others mingle with them or have a chance to play with one of their charries just because they have their future planned. I hate it, I want people who can write letting their minds flow free and letting their characters flow as freely as their minds. I'm one of the kind that likes answering to the posts and never following an established story arranged with someone else.

I'm 26 and I'm looking for adventure!

But I want Rumpleteazer Mr. Green
Flitterbug

Spanish Rumple - you have an excellent point. Would these youngsters be the same people who refuse to let their character be vulnerable to ill and who magically manage to dodge every punch or kick thrown at them when faced with an evildoer?

Where's the courage? Where's the ability to take a punch and be realistic about your injuries? Not everyone can be superfantastic martial arts masters. Especially not young, innocent jellicles.
Spanish_Rumple

Specially those ones!! Yes they are the ones. If there's a fight, than there's a fight. I like my characters to fight back and be brave though an injury is an injury and if my character is a little kitten such as Electra, fighting against a macavity or any other from his crew, she can be very brave, attack back and such but her strength is not comparable and she will end up like a paper ball in a corner of the street groaning in pain. Normal, duh!!

however, the death factor...doesn't go too much with me, aw come on! I want to keep on posting, if my charry is dead, what do I have to do then? stop playing? Nah! not fair, I love writing Mr. Green

And magic, telepathy...blah blah blah... if it's a "magic + fantasy" and there are strict rules to follow, then it's ok. But Cats according to what I've seen, ARE NOT MAGICAL. Misto cand do the magic that we se in shows, final point. And the twins, well they have that special sense/bond that usually liks twins, that's all. Why go further on that? Again, if the RPG is fantasy and magic such a Harry Potter RPG would, then ok. But there must be strict rules so that every character also has weaknesses.

And joining an RPG with a character "that wants to be mated"...come on! That means that there is a frustration in real life (I've studied psychology...¬¬) I am really frustrated with f******* boys because they don't stay with me longer than a month... and I'm not joining RPGs just to get my charries mated so that they have a better life than me! Laughing

NONSENSE!!

Wow, Peritombry. This sentence describes me precisely. Cats RPGs were one of the first online communities I became involved with when I got the internet at home seven years ago, and I made some great friends there. I still speak to many of them today, I've met one of them face-to-face and I plan to meet up with more someday. It's a little embarrassing, but I can honestly say that writing in some of the more serious RPGs had a real effect on my writing skills and my identity. I'm still a member of about ten of the old Yahoo! groups, just to preserve the messages.

You want serious RPGs? I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe, haha. Reeza could too.

I'm a little busy these days with school and work and real life, but I'd definitely be in for a one-or-two-posts-a-day type of game. In my experience, Bustopher is always available. Mr. Green
Peritombry

Usually yes Mr. Green

Unfortunately I haven't met anyone from Cats sites before app art from the handful of people I already knew before they joined and who I know offline. I have met a couple of people from another site I was a part of though.

Ugh. Sues. I refuse to let Sues join. No magic. No superpowers. Nevahhh. Pretty much every site I've been a part of I've put up guidelines that help to avoid them. Unfortunately some people don't seem to quite get the point of them.

For example, there was one girl who was pretty nice herself but who had a set of guidelines that included parts about not being related to a show cat and being no more magical than Mistoffelees. But then her own character was Alonzo's sister, Mistofelees's mate and had about 34567 magical powers of her own which made her Mistofelee's equal at least. It was horrible. *shudders*
Spanish_Rumple

Uuuugh... some people just don't know how to make up characters from scratch, if they don't get such or such character from the show, then they invent characteristics very similar to those of the characters they'd like to have. An other thing that specially happens with made ups is that they (specially for females) tend to ressemble as much as possible the male they want to mate or they have the personality that male would like to see in a couple... Or directly, they plot with the member who owns that male to mate their characters, because I'm sure they wouldn't stand a kind of open and free posting where they'd have to risk not to be chosen by the male they "love" (I guess it's specially teenager members...)

I'd give them a kick somewhere I know very well where the sun never rises...¬¬
Mr. Green
Flitterbug

I find that in group RPGs I always wind up playing male characters because there's usually an overload of females. I also find that right at the beginning I know who my character is going to end up with... which is perfectly fine, since I dont tell this other person and then set about having my character romance them without any of that silly "lets totally make our characters mates!" talk that goes on.
Peritombry

I don't automatically have characters find mates lol I've accepted a couple of offers for some of my characters but only because it "fit" the character to have one. I used to play mostly male characters but not always. Carbuckety was like my trademark for a while. Mr. Green
Peritombry

Ok well last night I registered a domain name - JellicleMoon.Com I haven't changed the nameservers yet so it probably just goes to a placeholder page at the moment. But I set up the hosting and so on.

I've been wondering though about having a few fanart images.. maybe just a few slightly different outlines that members can add color to or that we can make a few basic colored cats from for people to choose between. I'd really like for people to have a visual representation of their character but I'd prefer if they matched each other.

Also - a quick question:

Do you prefer to write as an actual cat or as an anthropomorthic cat? Personally I prefer actual four legged cats but if we used those a few people might have to get used to the fact that they can't mention hands or boots or whatever.
Flitterbug

Anthro-cats gives you much more room to move. With cat cats... lets face it, you don't exactly have all that much you can do. You can, what, lick yourself and paw at things. Yay.
Peritombry

You can still have a personality etc. Other than walking on two legs how are the anthro cats any different in the amount of stuff they can do for fun? Mr. Green The cat-shaped-cats would still dance since it's part of the story.
Moongewl

From a narrative perspective, anthro makes more sense. And in answer to your question: anthro cats can hug, shake hands, climb ladders, jump backwards...and actually properly dance. They can also do pretty much anything a traditional cat could do.
Bonus: if you're using anthro cats, you can say "hands" and "feet" instead of "paws" which I feel is sort of ridiculous and cutesy.
Spanish_Rumple

I'd rather play anthro cats though I can play normal cats. However... I think that with normal cats... my English vocabulary might get a bit short...lol (I think I can work it out quite good though Wink ) Probably you could teach me a "vocabulary list" about cats, though I think I can manage quite well... Mr. Green

Can I keep Teazer pwleaseeeeeeeeee?????? or are they'll gonna be invented?

A long time ago I played in an RPG about Macavity's tribe and it was fun to play in. Most of the characters were invented and there were fights, relationships, sexual intercourse (not explicit huh!!), rapings (not explicit), it was definetely not for young children. I son't remember the name of my character it started with S and it was red and black. Every member of Macavity's tribe had a role, there were a kind of "seducers" mine was one, there were thiefs and assassins among other jobs. I think later I've also got Rumpleteazer...

Well it's an idea of what you can do, I enjoyed it more than the usual junkyard RPG
Peritombry

There are two or three people interested in Rumpleteazer so I'm not completely sure what to do about her. Laughing

I was in an Rp like that once. I have a ton of characters for fictions, rps etc and I think I used Jocasta. She was meant to look sort of like a grown up cross between Bombalurina and Jemima. It wasn't until later that I found out the name "Jokaste" is used in some productions for Demeter.
Peritombry

And the domain is linked which means I can start work. Mr. Green If there isn't enough interest for an RP I can always make it a reference site. I might add some of that on too anyway it could help with the RPing.

I wouldn't say that at all. Maybe the members on this board aren't as active in RPGs as they once were, but there are a wealth of other boards with no affiliation to MdN at all. Golden Jellicles can bring you to some of them, but the majority of the boards I like to browse can be found by knowing who to talk to. People like Cayran and Msterope, who don't have accounts here as far as I know, are good resources if you're looking for decent RPGs, although, as far as I know, neither of them have any new ones in the works. All I'm saying is that there are plenty of decent RPs as long as you know where to look.

But I tend to find that the more successful RPs are not the ones with your general junkyard plot, but ones with some sort of schtick - new generation, cast, etc. And furthermore, the most successful RPs will not start now. This is the busy season, where lives seem to catch up with just about everyone, as is the time around February. You might wait a little while if you're not positive that you'll get a lot of RPers. Unless you don't want any school-age RPers, in which case this might be the best time, since we're all normally destracted by school right about now. But I can tell you that, depending on what the plot is, I'm hesitantly in. Very Happy

And Flit - this thread has only deepened my love for you...
Peritombry

Ahh Misterope I remember her. <3

Mine has a twist. And I think a fairly decent plot. I'm still working out a few of the minor details.

*hug* You are my new best friend. I get so sick of fluffy romantic rpgs. I agree completely with you. So many times anything even slightly dark gets shoved under the carpet.
Flitterbug

To date I've had two favourite Cats-related RPs.

One was with several like minded people who took on about four or five characters each and proceeded to maim, torture, and destroy almost all of them. It was all about a psychotic Macavity enslaving the junkyard and the underground resistance that followed... A common plot, with a twist. You see, everyone actually got involved in the evildoing and the rebellion. If I recall there was an age restriction on the board and at least one member left because they couldn't handle the violence.

The other was an all-human AU about rock stars. Tugger was the lead singer of an up and coming pop band, whose nemesis was the dark and seductive Macavity who headlined a band with a slightly darker kind of rock. I liked that one because it was realistic. True to character, but set in the real world, where people get hurt, rejected, stressed, and actually have to pay the bills (and talk to parents).

I'm now involved in a spin-off of the second one, and I'd invite people to join that... Only it's been going on for so long it would take you months to catch up. But if anyone's interested anyway, I'm sure we could create a new world to play in.

Do you like drama, violence, slow-moving romance, and creativity? Do you like characters that have vulnerabilities and evildoers who are actually evil? Are you capable of maintaining at least a semi-mature style of narrative? PM me. Lets talk RPG.
Mungojerrie_rt

It's always more fun to tourture your favorite characters. Cool
Atraielees

Hey, is this thing still happening?
It seems I've been hit with that "flood of nostalgia" as of late.
If there is going to be a new and mature RPG I'd love to join, but I want Jemima. Wink
Peritombry

It is yes. I've been rushing to finish writing a song with a friend for a contest over the last week or so so thing were put on hold temporarily. But It's still going ahead and I'm now pondering layouts etc.

I don't have an official character claim thng yet. Since everyone I've spoken to so far seems to want the same few characters I might possibly have some sort of audition process. I don't want to make it too complicated or long winded but I don't know how else to make it completely fair. Any ideas?
Flitterbug

Do not go with a "first come, first served" policy. You do that and you could wind up with someone playing a character they really shouldn't. You'll also wind up with a ton of female characters and no males.
Moongewl

Maybe ask them for a short description of the character as they would play it? For instance, if you've got two people asking for Victoria and you get this description from the first person: "victoria is very sweet and friendly and cute and playlful and nice!!!! she is mistos mate and loooooves to dance with him!"...you've got reason not to use this person as Victoria. It's a Mary Sue description, and what if the person playing Mistoffelees doesn't WANT to be Victoria's mate first thing? Besides, their technical writing skills would be painful to look at day after day.
The second person gives this bio: "Victoria is rather shy, being younger than most of the cast. Though she tries to be friendly, her meekness can be mistaken for snobbery, and she is easily intimidated. However, she has a strong sense of morality." It says they've put some time into the character, at least enough to give her a bit of personality that could be of use in roleplay. (Does Victoria disapprove of Rumpleteazer's actions outwardly, or does she say nothing and try to avoid her? What happens when Etcetera tries to rope Victoria into a mean-spirited joke?) As a bonus, you get an idea of a person's writing skills--both technical and literary.
Obviously not every decision would be as obvious as the sample above, but when you have two good candidates who want to play Bombalurina, you might pick one to be Bombalurina, and provide the other with a list of "open" characters, suggesting that the direction they'd wanted for Bombalurina would also fit the Rum Tum Tugger well. Obviously not everyone will be happy with a second or third choice, but you've got directorial power here. If they're too sore over not getting their first choice, tough.
Peritombry

*nods* That's what I was leaning toward. I have an application-filtering system on my other sites already which keeps out the majority of Sues. Of course some write decent descriptions to start with and then go insane when you accept them but they can be smited later. Razz
Alonza0

You might also consider having applicants write a brief history of the character in addition. Not only is this helpful in establishing a character's overall persona, but it can also be a help when you get two people who are both literate and have roughly the same interpretation of a character's personality. For example, someone who portrays Demeter as an abandoned kitten left to fend for herself and taken into the Yard for shelter after being abused by Macavity may be a better choice than someone who says she's lived in the Yard all her life and has always had a crush on Munkustrap. After all, that history really doesn't fit what we see on stage. But if you don't think that's necessary, Flit's suggestion will probably work a good deal of the time. And you must let us know as soon as this board is up and running, because I'm very curious to see how it goes.
Peritombry

Well my current application script includes history, personality and appearence. The other details vary depending on which site it's being used on. Some include a tribe or species or something. I suppose if we added the tribe part we could specify which "side" the character is on.
Peritombry

Just another quick question - How many characters do you think it is reasonable to allow? I'm leaning toward just one Canon Cat and possibly one or two OCs to flesh the tribe out a bit. I don't want it to be completely overrun with OCs though, the Canons should be the main focus. So perhaps we could allow an OC once they've been actively playing a Canon for a certain amount of time.
Moongewl

Definitely stick to Canon at first. Don't bend until the personalities of the Canon characters are established(at least two-three weeks), and then allow people one OC if they ask.
I would suggest allowing one to two Canon characters per player, but not two female Canons per character simply because there are fewer females in the Canon.
Flitterbug

Also because that way you're less likely to have a huge bunch of females with only one or two male characters.

You might also want to watch for people who take male characters and then proceed to make them act like females. It's a very common mistake, especially prevalent amongst teens and romance writers. Additionally, if yours is one of those mature (as in "not immature") games that allow homosexual character, you might want to let people know that not all gay cats are going to act like queens.
Peritombry

Agh yes that's another irritation. I'm leaning toward something a little more mature currently. Nothing too explicit, but certainly with a higher rating than some of the other RPs I've seen. Hopefully that will help to keep some of the pre-teens from trying to join with Sue characters. I can stick an age limit on there but I can't guarentee that noone will put in a false age. It's not always possible to tell how old someone is from the quality of their writing. And I know some people of 12 or 13 who are more mature than a lot of adults of 30+ I know too.

I have no problem with gay cats, although I'd prefer that people keep in character. I'd be extremely surprised if some characters turned out to be gay. Not so surprised with others. Razz

Having a limit on female characters might be a good idea. Maybe they could have two Canons if at least one of them is male. On some of my other RPs I haven't allowed multiple accounts because there have been money/trading systems besides the writing so having more than one account has given an unfair advantage over others. But there won't be money or stores on this site so it's less of a concern. After all what would Cats buy? Tins of tuna? Razz
Rallers

If I could get away with a character with a Bustopher Jones or Old Deut' habit of popping up, with it being occasional, I'd be thrilled to join in when it is set up; especially with the moves to keep Mary Sues out, and a more mature and without a fluffy wish-fulfillment thing going on. Though I haven't really roleplayed in a long time, and life's rather hectic right now. But I could manage a post every day I think, though more if something's actually going on. That's the main problem I've had with past RPs: there may be a plot, but it doesn't get moving. At least I'd be more than willing to play male characters; I feel more comfortable with them anyway.
Peritombry

I'm sure we can find a character like that for you somewhere. Mr. Green

On the Twilight site that I run, we do activity checks to make sure the Canon characters are active, so I'll probably be doing some of those on this site too. But I'm going to be splitting them into major and minor characters, I think. A major character like Munkustrap will probably need to be more active than a chorus cat like Admetus, for example.
Flitterbug

*twitch* You run a Twilight site? Suddenly my opinion of your opinion of good writing has dropped. *is a snob when it comes to novels*

Yes. I do. And I'm quite proud of it actually.

I have to forgive my friends, or I wouldn't have any left. Also, I'm dying to check out Breaking Dawn. Hyper-accelerated pregnancy, pillow-biting vampire sex, "Renesmee"....
It sounds so bad I HAVE to read it. But I'm waiting for my library to get it back in, because no way can I imagine paying for the book.
Peritombry

Not to sound rude but could we get back to the original subject of the thread please? Everyone has different taste and some people are just determined to hate certain things in advance. I'd really prefer not to get into a debate as I have enough stress at the moment. If you don't like it then fine, whatever. The Cats site is completely seperate to it.
Flitterbug

I should hope so. I only mentioned it because purple prose in RP posts isn't always the best way to go. And, uh, it's not exactly a great place to start for avoiding terrible OCs. lol Then again... when did the Cats fandom ever need help creating terrible OCs?

*pokes Peri* I'm aching to be a kitty again. How's the site coming?
Peritombry

I'll be setting up the basic forums and signups over the weekend. And all of my sites have has Sue filters.
Peritombry

Ok the basic site is pretty much finished. There are just a few minor bugs for us to work out. If anyone wants to start writing out applications to get a head start, wer'e going to need a history, personality, appearence and a short writing sample. Preferably an rp sample. Smile

Well when I say short... I don't mean two lines. Just that it doesn't have to be fifteen pages long. lol
Atraielees

Should we PM those to you or wait for the site?
Peritombry

I was going to say wait but actually I suppose we should try to straighten out some family trees out in advance so we don't end up with everyone claiming descent from the same couple of cats. Razz
Spanish_Rumple

Please announce here whenever your site is ready to enter... I've been checking quite often... I can't wait to see it Smile

I PMed you an application. The RP sample I just made up on the spot, I can do better when there are other characters to interact with. Smile
Peritombry

Thanks. Smile And I will.

Actually for those that haven't so far - I'm already being sent a few applications and most people so far seem to want the same few characters so if any of you have a second choice it might be useful to let me know. Smile
Alonza0

Do you think you could let us know who's already taken? Because I don't want to waste my time applying for a character when two other people have applied for the same one.
Peritombry

So far I've had applications for:

Jemima
Rumpleteazer
Mistofelees
Cassandra
Bombalurina
Demeter
Mungojerrie
Munkustrap
Tantomile
Rum Tum Tugger
Victoria
Deuteronomy
Carbucketty

Although mostly the multiple applications are for the first three on this list. The writers applying for Munkustrap and Cassandra are really good though and I'm sort of leaning toward playing Demeter myself because I'm used to her having played her several times before including twice on stage. Mr. Green

We're thinking of probably hanging onto the cast information, (I think it came from cast members anyway or maybe Gillian Lynne. I can't remember exactly now. Confused ) about Deuteronomy being the father of Munkustrap, Macavity and Tugger. They're meant to represent different parts of him. Leadership, power and free spirit. I think one or two Broadway casts thought Plato was related to Grizabella too as their markings are simmilar there before Grizabella goes off to put on her coat.
Atraielees

I applied for a second character since my first one was on the list (and have more than one applicant so far.) This new one is not on the list so heres hoping!!
Spanish_Rumple

Peritombryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy when will we be able to enter your new site....agh! I can't wait to see a new Cats based site. Mr. Green

Will it be only for the RPG or you're going to upload also Fan Art and such? I'm so bored... I almost know by heart most of the sites... Rolling Eyes
Peritombry

I -think- by the end of the day. I'm working on it now. The Private messages have a coding error which I'm not quite sure how to fix yet but most things are working.
Peritombry

Agh sorry it's taken so much longer than I expected.

The private messages are fixed now and though the site needs work still I think wer'e almost ready to take applications. I'll be finishing things off while people are applying and wer'e deciding who gets which part. I have a Junkyard history prepared to help people write histories etc. which I just have to finish typing out. The rest I can work on later. Smile
Claire

Am I too late to join up? I'm happy to take whatever character/s are going, I like a challenge!
Peritombry

The only definates we have at the moment are the staff. The others have been applied for but we haven't gone through and decided who to give the characters to yet. And it's not even properly open yet so yeah you have time. Smile
Flitterbug

To be honest it may be easier to join a pre-established RPG group. Confused
Spanish_Rumple

I've tried to join but it doesn't seem to work... I've seen Rumpleteazer in red... so I guess I won't get her now...
There are a lot of characters that I don't know and I'd like to know whether they belong to Macavity's tribe or the Jellicles... Well I'd like to be able to read the plot to see if there's a point on applying for one or the other tribe...
Have you got images/dolls of those characters that are not the typical Jellicles from the show? (to see how would you like them to look like)
Flitterbug

I've noticed that the registration form includes a character application - since character apps have already been submitted through PM on this site, does that mean you're disregarding those entirely?

If so, can you forward me my application, since I foolishly believed it would be a one off and did not save it.
Atraielees

So, my character I applied for is taken...does that mean I got him? Or what?

EDIT: wow, very interesting. I just looked at the character list and tribe list.
I think you need to explain it to us before anyone tries to register. Smile
Peritombry

Sorry for the confusion everyone. Someone tried to hack one of my other sites last night so I had to abandon going through the characters for a while. I'm sorry but Rumpleteazer and Macavity are taken now. Sad I was in the process of creating accounts and pming people when it all happened.

You don't have to send in the details again, we can create an account from the details in the PMs. The histories etc. will be explaining the tribes. I still have to work out where some of the characters are being placed.

Flitterbug you got Tugger but I'll need to change the name on your account as it's meant to be the characters name. Smile
Atraielees

I sent the details for my Jemima app again (sorry I did it before reading your reply)

Since I did not get Mac I'd like to know soon if I get her in case I have to apply again...I'd like to snatch up a cat I 'know' a lot about soon, hehe.

Can't wait!!

Oh and who are the fell?
And the other one...the porcupine one...? (I know it's not porcupine, but is a name that means that...)
Alonza0

I've registered also, but I missed the page that followed with instructions, it re-loaded before I had a chance to read it. I know it said something about an e-mail, but I've gotten no e-mail yet. Should I have? If not, please explain how I would go about logging on to my account. Sorry, but I'm rather confused.

And in response to Spanish_Rumple's question earlier, I have some images of some of the more random characters on there. Of course, I can't be sure if they're what Peritombry has in mind as far as descriptions go, but I guess it's a place to start.

In this picture, the back row of the bottom picture is comprised of Tintomara, Shakespeare, Moses, and Ramses, while Sam is the tuxedo in the bottom right.

Head shots of those characters can be found in this gallery, as well as headshots of Augustus, Isis and Savannah. Some of those costume designs are rather outlandish though, not sure if whoever's playing them would even want their character to look like that (blue?).

Various pictures of Hesperia can be found in this thread along with a somewhat decent description of her character.

Gilbert in Japan can be seen in this photo.

I can't find a picture of Spike, but as far as descriptions go, I can recall from this thread and a few before it that Spike is a predominantly brown tom made to look like a cross between Bill Bailey, Carbucketty, and possibly Alonzo as well.

Olivia is from the World Tour, she is identified in this picture, but seen more clearly here in between the middle queen and right tom of the first row. She appears to be standing to the left of Bombalurina.

I know I had a picture of Storge too... he was a swing in London played by Stori James, but I can't find it... Hmm. I believe he looked similar to Victor though, if my memory served me correct. I know I also had a picture of Aprilli, she was from Helsinki in 86, I think, but that also seems to have vanished. Eh well, the descriptions will probably end up getting changed anyway. And thanks to Carbucketty and Belle for pictures.

Olivia:

This is a swing from the UK tour. Possiblly it is the Storge one.

Peritombry

Thanks those threads/pictures will be a big help. Very Happy I was in the process of creating a base image to show the colors/markings of each cat on the character page but then I got a virus which I'm still getting rid of. Photoshop refuses to reinstall at the moment. It's one of the things I need to do before the site officially "opens".

Porpentine is mentioned in some of TSE's poems... Porpentine cats. I figured we could use it for another tribe. Possibly Macavity's since his fur is all spiky? Razz The fell I got from "fiend of the fell" and in my nano novel (which I unfortunately had to give up around 25k words due to an illnes that made it incredibly hard to concentrate Sad ) I was going to use the name for exiled Jellicles.

The Jemima application looks good, though we don't have her down as being Demeter's. Hopefully the history will explain it clearly enough when it's all typed up. I have to wipe my computer again so while it's wiping/reinstalling stuff I'll write it out on paper then i can type it up when the computer comes back on and I can use it again.

Noone else applied for Alonzo and the one I have is very good so I think you're safe with him, Alonza0. Smile
Atraielees

Cool, take your time, computer issues can be frustrating.

Yeah, I'll adapt to whatever history you have for Jemima...I just wrote the app based on my fan fic...but I'll rp your version of cannon gladly Smile

Thanks for those links, threads/photos, all that posted! It's helping me with my fic! haha
Peritombry

Ok it's all wiped and I-think- fixed now. So I can type up my history and start on the chorus cats again. I'm going to attempt to draw Moses, Isis etc. in the same style as the regular costumes so they match.
Peritombry

Does this one look ok? I'm not completely sure myself :/
Atraielees

It looks pretty cool, do you use photoshop?
Peritombry

Thanks. Smile Yes, photoshop and a graphics pad.

I'm trying to decide whether to use costumes or draw as actual cats. I suppose actual cats might be easier and if the markings are distinctive enough they should be recognizable. :/
Atraielees

If it were me I'd do one of each (if time allows of course)
I mean, it's just a personal thing I guess, but as I've been writing my fan fic I tend to go back and forth in my mind as to if they are actual cats or performers in costume (I'm not a fan of the whole anthro thing...)
However I mostly picture them as actual cats, much like a Richard Adams novel.
But if you do only one drawing, go with actual cats.
In my humble opinion that is Smile
Peritombry

I tend to do that too lol. If I write a fiction or something it's almost always with them as actual cats.
Atraielees

Is the site down?
I can't seem to access it.
Peritombry

The host was having some technical problems for a while. Some idiot was DOS attacking them which is sending the server so many hits that it crashes. They think they've blocked it now so I can finally get back to work.

edit - Actually it still seems to be down. I've emailed them. To stop the attack they had to change their servers around so maybe something got missed. Sad
Peritombry

Ok it should be fixed now. All they said was "something weird happened with the DNS". I could have told them that much. -.-
Spanish_Rumple

Peritombry, I'd like to see a picture of Savannah, Isis and Hesperia. By the way, could you please upload just the plot? I can't write about ages and personal histories if I don't know how to connect them to the main plot... I'd like to be able to read the story that you've thought in order to choose a character.
Atraielees

is this still in the works, or has it started?
Flitterbug

If it's started, nobody has informed me. I hung about the site for a couple of weeks, waiting for this promised beginning... then nothing. So I gave up.
Peritombry

I'm sorry there were more bugs than I'd expected and I've also had a lot of family stuff to deal with too. Someone tried to hack my other sites so we've been making security patches and there didn't seem a lot of point in spending hours editing coding and then having to go through it all again to patch that too. It seemed like a better idea to wait until it was all fixed rather than editing five or six different sites seperately.
They were fixed late last week but this week I've had jury duty which has meant a lot less time online. Which is why I haven't been logging in here much this week either. I should be able to get some of it done over the weekend and depending on how much I need to edit that may be enough. If not then I'll need to finish it off at the end of next week when jury duty finishes.

For anyone interested, there is an RPG with MANY canon characters still available (there are currently only four active players). The storyline is that Macavity recently tried his hostile takeover bit and then mysteriously withdrew. Then Coricopat, during an investigation at Macavity's Lair, brought back a henchcat who was severely wounded. No one but Coricopat and Tantomile knew she was a henchcat, and now all the Jellicles but Coricopat, Tantomile, Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, Etcetera, and some original character Jellicles have mysteriously disappeared. Why, you ask?

Um...largely because there's no one playing them. Rolling Eyes We figured we'd turn it into a plot point. So if you feel like joining, please do. Don't worry about jumping in, we can work it in easily. Busy people welcome! We're ok with a slower pace so if you don't have a lot of time, don't worry.

Sorry if the plot sounds slightly confusing. This RPG has been severely plagued by people who join, post once, and are never heard from again. Please don't add yourself to that list. Thanks!

Flitterbug

Oh yay. An RPG revolving around an original character. I'm so excited.
Rumpleteazer4760

Meh, it doesn't have to stay that way as most of the original character players are gone anyway.
Peritombry

I tend to avoid things that revolve too heavily around original characters in that way if I can help it. Too many bad sue-memories. Laughing

Quick update -

My computer decided it was a good idea to die on me a couple of weeks ago which is why I haven't been around. However I have some recovery cds coming through the post (since the ones I made myself failed to work -.-) and they should be here in the next day or two. In the meantime I've added more detail to the characters and tribal history on paper and if I can keep hold of my dad's laptop for long enough (three other people keep snatching it back) I'll be able to type it up sooner.

I also had an excellent idea for a layout a few minutes ago which I'll be drawing in a moment before I forget it. Mr. Green
BlondeBelter

Ladida, disregard.
Mungojerrie_rt

Is the site working? I put in an application for Pouncival twice, and it still has no response.
BlondeBelter

Possibly applying for either Demeter or Jemima.
Peritombry

The coding is now working. Mr. Green Just in the process now of switching it over to my new host which is more reliable than the old one. It takes 24-48 hours for the name servers to send the domain to the new space. And then it's done. I'm sorry it's taken so long. I've had to put a new harddrive into my computer and it's been off to be repaired because thw wireless card kept deleting it's own driver and.. gah. Next time I'm getting a mac.
Peritombry

Ok.. I know this had been a while. Various parts of my life ganged up on me and smote me. Laughing However I'm not in a position to work on this again if anyone is still interested. I have a shiny new layout which I'll be adding all the coding to and testing tomorrow.

It looks like the server change ate the database as it was when I posted the link a few months ago. I should have backups here somewhere. I have a on of backup cds from various harddrive replacements so it should be in there somewhere. Smile

Right now I think we have Demeter, Carbucketty, Rumpleteazer, Deuteronomy, Bombalurina, Mungojerrie and Cassandra. I think I'm missing someone there. But it's 4.34 am so I'll have to check up on it tomorrow.
Stargazer

I would be interested... I enjoy rps... And I'm just now getting back into writing my fanfiction that has been dead for years... I will finish my one story.. I will I will!

Anyway, I would be interested in playing Vicki or Tumble... Or both... I'm not picky... Victoria is my favorite but Tumble is now becoming a personal favorite (especially after seeing Cats last night... The actor who was tumble was wonderful.)
Heavylove

Sounds fun if it can be manageble and if mods could count some of the downs I read about early in this thread. When would this take place? Before the show or after (if its after you have more freedom than if its before cause if b4 you have to make sure you can zeroing the stage when time comes for the show aka macavity cant kill old D for example).

I am playing world of warcraft which is an mmo but I guess rpg would be fun...

as for part, I am male but I really dont find the males left that interesting from an rpg standpoint. But my favorite kitten is Exotica and it would be lovely to explore here realations with Tugger a bit further (or if it just youth fanlove from her side?) Embarassed
Bustephen

If Stargazer's in, I'm in.
Stargazer

Of course you'd be in if I was in... We had some pretty interesting storylines going on in SpyCats... Man... That was sooo long ago. I miss it Sad
Peritombry

Great. Smile I've been doing some more work on it today. I feel awful right now so I might sleep early and finish it off tomorrow. I think I'm getting a cold or something. At least it'd better be a cold. A couple of family members have swine flu right now and I will not be impressed if they've given it to me too -.-
Heavylove

auch be sure to pick up a doze off vacine then... But you know the saying "the show must go on"? Laughing
Stargazer

Oh no! I hope you feel better! Being sick is no fun and I feel I'm getting sick too... Boo. Sad
Peritombry

I couldn't sleep so I came online to do some research and I have all but one symptom of it. Sad
Bustephen

I'm the only person in my family who's not sick as a dog.

So what's the current status of this RPG? Still looking for players? I've been away from the thread for so long, I really can't tell if a group was ever actually opened.
