I was in row 11 on 29/7 and row 14 on 5/8. Both were aisle seats but there wasn't that much audience interaction and they all seemed to be given specific parts of the auditorium.
Asparagus/Bustopher Jones - Paul Donkers
He's funny! Nice voice, too.
Bombalurina - Anouk van Nes
She's *thin*. Not sure if the character is supposed to be like this, but she's a bit of a slut, not just a flirt.
Grizabella - Anita Meijer
Terribly boring, she didn't move me like Pia Douwes did.
Jellylorum - Annemieke van der Veer
I don't like her voice but her acting's nice. I much preferred Penny Vos's voice though, even though she had a slight accent (Penny's originally from Australia).
Jemima - Veerle Casteleyn
Really cute but her solos sound fragile. She has a strong belting voice and can be heard over the company during the final words of Ad-dressing of Cats, awesome.
Jennyanydots - Maaike Schuurmans
Doesn't stand out in any way. A bit dissapointing after experiencing Marleen van der Loo in this role. A shame Marleen's left Cats now.
Mr. Mistoffelees - Mark John Richardson
Excellent dancer and good singer (you can hear he's worked hard on his Dutch btw, bravo!). Unfortunately I thought as ensemble cat/Quaxo he blends in a little too much and doesn't act much. During his signature song however he's great. He puts in a solid performance but I just wish he'd do more throughout the whole show.
Mr. Mistoffelees (2nd cover) - Andrés Pérez López
A wonderful little (5'2 or something) dancer and incredible actor. He's more playful than Mark (in fact I don't think Mark's playful at all) and does not blend in. He 'fought' (with the boxing gloves) Electra during Pekes and Pollicles and after Munkustrap seperated them all he was still signalling to Electra, eventually showing her his bottom.. LOL!
His pirate costume made him look smaller than he already is. He was incredibly fascinated by Griddlebone during Growltiger's song and he kept running after her. Munkustrap had to drag him back; Munkustrap tried to block him but after a few moments he managed to reach Griddlebone again. The other pirates mingled and dragged him back again causing him to tumble over. Plato stood over him and signalled to stay put.
His voice isn't that great though! Perhaps he's having trouble with the Dutch language, but he sounds a bit nasal at times.
Anyway, maybe he's not exactly in character (how's Misto supposed to be?) but he's so amusing to watch! I'd seen him before and was quite impressed with his acting so I was glad that I'd get to see him again. One of my favourites in this cast.
Mungojerrie - Mark van Beelen
He seemed a bit bored on 29/7 but he was great on 5/8, doing silly voices and weird stuff during his and Rumpleteazer's song.
Munkustrap - Roberto de Groot
A really nice and clear voice and good, solid acting. On 5/8 he hit Mungojerrie a bit too hard during Pekes and Pollicles, causing Mungojerrie's box to fall from his head. Mungojerrie looked a bit lost and didn't know where to put the box lol.
Pouncival (1st cover) - Marcel Postma
GAHH I don't like him at all. Seriously he just doesn't dance synchronously with the other actors. Unfortunately it seems either the principal Pouncival is out, or on as Tumblebrutus every time I go.
Rum Tum Tugger - Gino Emnes
He doesn't bother to walk into the aisle during his song and simply jumps one of the people in the front row. He then climbs over the chairs to the 5th or so row, meanwhile humping/licking (couldn't see if he did at these performances, but I know he's done it before)/etc audience members and making the most interesting sounds... XD. After Mistoffelees's comment he makes a suggestive move to Misto "if you let me in I want back out" (something like that, translated from the Dutch words). Misto looks at him, then to the audience and waves him away with a look saying that Tugger is crazy.
He literally grabs Bomba's breast just before saying "no".. don't like that AT ALL. He sings Mistoffelees's number really jazzy which I did like.
All in all I liked him but he could be a bit more extreme in some places and less so in other moments.
Rumpleteazer (1st cover) - Cindy Bell
Not nearly cheeky enough, I really missed the principal (Marjolein Teepen) here.
Skimbleshanks - Marcel Visscher
I adore Marcel's Skimble. Always looking after the kittens and always cheerful. Lovely voice too.
Victoria - Anique Bosch
Good dancer but she doesn't act much.
Victoria (1st cover) - Natascha Dejong
A better actress than Anique, but Anique's the better dancer. I think I prefer the principal, but not by a large margin.
At the end a large vase of roses was put onstage for the leaving cast members on 5/8, a nice touch.

Re: Rotterdam/Netherlands review | Quote: | Tugger's trip to the audience is really crazy - I don't know what would I do if I was a lady being mouthfu*ked by a tomcat | Lady.. or gent.
| Quote: | | Do you have any idea about who leaves the show? | Marco Bakker (Deut) was supposed to be leaving on 5th Aug but apparantly some theatres requested him to do some more shows. Merlijn Wolsink is leaving, Hannah van Meurs (Tantomile), Marijn Brouwers (swing - he's Tugger on the cast recording) is also leaving. But I'm not sure WHEN those last three are leaving.
Anyway, I can't give you complete and correct info. The cast are on holiday right now. Their first show back is 22nd Aug - I suppose around that time the new cast details should be known. I just can't imagine anyone joining the production for 1.5 months, however I don't think they can do without new people.
| Quote: | And a question - is it normal in Netherlands that actors don't get flowers at the end of the shows? I haven't seen it on any of Cats performances and it really surprised me because it is really common here that at least one of the actors gets flower/gift/anything from the visitors | They probably received their proper flowers backstage, it's common when a single actor (or a few actors) leaves a show. The roses were probably extra. I don't remember Stanley Burleson getting anything at all onstage after his last show btw.
When a show closes here (they typically run 1 year) the cast are presented flowers onstage.
I've seen audience members throw roses onstage, but typically they will go to the stage door if they care enough to get them flowers, gifts, etc.
