Role Size

i didnt really look through the threads, so sorry if a similar topic has been done.

i was wondering if its bad to audition for a role you want, but your probably not suited for.
that is, would it be looked down upon for a inexperienced actor to try out for the lead when they are maybe too young or something? would it be better to try out for a smaller part that youre more likely to get?
or should you shoot for the role you want most and let the director place you elsewhere if you aren't good enough?

hope that makes sense.

GO FOR IT. You'll never know if you could've gotten if you didn't try out at all. Smile

As long as you make it clear that you are willing to accept any role (either by talking to the director, or writing it down on the audition sheet), there is nothing wrong with going for the role that you really want.

Don't be scared to be ambitious!

If there's a smaller part you want and think you're well-suited for, go for that. But it doesn't hurt to ALSO go for a lead. Show the casting director you're not afraid to take a risk and go out of your comfort zone.
music is my life!!!

go for anything you want - you've got nothing to lose. plus, if you go for a lead, you might catch the director's eye and get it... you never know!
