RJS Chess Script Now on Web SiteHi all,I didn't want to hog somebody else's thread, so I thought it best to start my own. I've now uploaded my draft 'workshop' script for Chess, as mentioned in High-Bariton's thread. It's something I did a while back and the script on which my website is based, and as such is only a 'work in progress' I'd love to know what you think - good and bad. Best wishes, RJS www.geocities.com/RJSChess |

I'm sorry, but in all the drafts of Chess I've ever come up with, I've gone by one rule: all lyrics must have been written by Tim Rice. (I did experiment with a translation of Svetlana's solo from Stockholm but abandoned it.) It doesn't matter if you have to patch together five variations to get the "Endgame" you like, I think - out of respect - that it should be followed. I'm uncomfortable with what appear to be lyrics that were never written by Rice. (Interesting caveat for this rule: it bars using the "Endgame" lyrics as finally used on Broadway; they were altered from the final draft he wrote.) |

Yeah...I agree about the lyric changes |

These 'new' lyrics were never intended to be 'used' these were 'dummy' lyrics that were used in the treatment to get across some ideas that I thought would be interesting to have the characters express.
This was always a 'dream project' and Tim would have been working with those who were doing the workshops and all final lyrics would of course have been his. There is only so much you can do with improving Chess by only using what has already been written. And only using current lyrics makes it like some kind of puzzle, a game - fitting the lyrics in wherever you can. That's fine if that's what you want to do, but I wanted to take it a bit further than that. RJS |
