Rescued Kitten:

Hey guys, tis I RB.

With a tail of woe.
As you all know I have moved and had a difficult time with internet of late. Well no more. I'm BACK! Ta-DA~! (bows)

But during my move, I rescued a half starved kitten, named Clopin.
With the help of Idiosylph and Erikonil we had been coaxing him back to good health.

tonight however things took a turn for the worse. Clopin was rushed to the emergency vet with a fever of 105.7
he is sick with intestinal parasites, and is very weak. Spending most of his day hooked to an IV and taking nasty medicine to boot.

He was born April 1st 2006 and is 15 weeks old. This young tom is a fighter thoe, and we are hoping he will pull through.

So all you loyal jellicles, and even pollicles out there, give a moment to pray to the heavyside and ask the everlasting cat to look over our sick angel. He is truly a jellicle and we do not want to lose him.

Love and hugs,
Jeremy.

I'm so sorry, that must be horrible for you to go through. He sounds like such a lovely keen kitten, you have all my hopes and prayers for his full recovery. Keep us posted on how hes getting on (though i think i already know you will do), and know that it will look bleak for a while, but sometimes things do look a lot better after a couple of hair pullingly bad days. and sometimes they dont, but you cant think about that.
You and your kitten have my prayers. With any luck, hell be bounding around in no time.

THank you everyone for keeping him in your thoughts, I'm praying he's up and playing really soon!

He looks so much like my little tom. Though my tom is two years old and not so small anymore, but the color is right. I'll keep him in my prayers too.

Please tell us how you got Clopin and how you saved him. I love stories like that. Very Happy

^.^* Yup, that's me...worried more about a kitten then myself... (Laughs)
Of course I wasn't about to watch him die.
I guess I should explain. You see after I was invited as a guest artist to speak in Connecticut a week ago, we were driving back from the conference. I was feeling pretty good, because I managed to cover the cost of the trip by selling some of my art, with enough left over for rent; and I was interviewed and published in/by a local newspaper. Smile

On the way home we dropped off our friend/travel companion at his shack of a home. I had to pee, BAD and asked to use his bathroom.

I did so, <EWW!!!> and was quickly trying to finish up-(while not touching anything). When a small noise caught my attention. I looked out the door and saw the most horrible thing ever! A kitten that looked like a walking skeleton. I felt ill, and dizzy, and walked across the peeling and creaking moldy floor. I followed the thing down the damp rank hall into a dark pungent room. There I found amid a plethora of grime and junk, an empty food and water bowl, a filthy floor and over spilling with feces litter pan, and several emaciated and dying cats.

I stood transfixed and absolutely disgusted. I mean you see this on TV but to see it in person. ...

The guy came up to check on me and I whirled on him like a rabid dog. He was all" they take care of themselves", "they eat bugs and mice", "They aren't my cats!"

Running from the house I climbed back into the car and we drove off.

A week later I had scheduled a vet visit, and we made an exclusive trip back to the guys home. Once there I captured the skeleton kitten, He looked like he was barely alive.

We went immediately to the vet, and it was very expensive. But he was fixed up, and we went home.

I sat with him all weekend, and the next week. Loving and coddling him, encouraging him back to health. When on Sunday he lay down and didn't get back up. He was weak and lethargic, and when I picked him up, limp and very hot.

I rushed with him to the emergency animal hospital. I don't drive, so I needed a ride. It was Sunday...so his vets' was closed.

He was dying with a fever of 105.7

They asked me if I wanted him to be resuscitated if he died, and I stared at them like they had just asked me if I wanted to kill a child.
"Save my baby!" I sobbed. "Please help him, he's sick, and he's not going to die. He will have a better life!"

They scooped him up and rushed him off to a room. There they scraped his intestines, gave him an oxygen mask, an I.V. and started on meds, emergency fluids, and put ice packs on his back to get the fever down.

They escorted me out to the waiting room, and I sat for hours in horrible fear and deepening despair.

My current roomy went to 7-11 and got me a drink, but I couldn't calm down.

The hours dragged by like days, and it seemed as if the clock had started to work in reverse. I felt cold and sick and scared.

Then the nurse called out. "Clopin??"

I jumped and looked around the waiting room, waiting for someone else to answer. Then she called out. "Clopin’s owner?"

I rushed to the door and she led me back to the E.R.

There he lay, with I.V. still in him, and oxygen mask clouded with his steady breathing.

"It's good you got him here," the nurse sighed while squeezing her clipboard in her arms. "He was moments from death, the fever might have caused brain damage, but you got him here soon enough, so we believe he's fine...

I was sent back to the waiting room.

Then about an hour later, I was called to the counter. There I was presented with the bill.
$2,567.95

you could have slapped me across the face. I felt so faint.

But the SPCA case worker was there. She had me fill out a few forms, and then swear that I would love and care for Clopin.

The SPCA covered the emergency care up to 2,000.00$ !!!
I was so very happy! The rest was covered by another Animal rights group. In the end…The whole thing cost me… $166.00 <for his meds and special food>

I forked gladly over my rent money, and we took the little guy home, with all his prescriptions, special food, and update visits listed on a receipt.

Then we confronted the kittens prior owner. I begged him to get them help, I sobbed and pleaded. Hopefully he will take me seriously…as I have ratted him out to the SPCA.

Clopin…well He’s actually 100% better, and is now looking like a real, happy, (fattening up) kitten. His siblings and parents are off to new homes and care facilities.

It was quite the adventure, and I am feeling a mix of happy bubbles, and "OH MY GOD!!!!!!! Shocked~faint!

In the end, I think I did the right thing. I am equally amazed at how many people are donating to Clopin. Already he has raised enough money to cover his meds and his special food.

My very close friend Art actually gave me 200$ to the bill. Smile This makes me all over happy! While My Boyfriend ( BIG Dan T!) has worked hard at finding homes for the other kittens.

It really is so nice to feel so loved and also to know that everyone supports and feels that I was right, and others still came forward and admitted that they wanted to do the same thing, but lacked the courage to do it.

In the end, I may have lost one friend...as he was probably heavily fined by the SPCA... but I gained a new baby, and a lot more respect for my family and friends. Smile

:smiles:

Love always,
Jeremy

P.S.

Good karma can be found anywhere. When you feel sad, lost, hungry, alone, cold or just frustrated remember this. Your angel might be just around the next corner, waiting to rescue you. All you have to do, is brave the world and seek him/her out. If Clopin hadn't come to investigate who was in the bathroom...I would have never seen him.
This can be true in any situation. Clopin's "Family" didn't love him. But he's found a new home and he's now cherished. This home is always open to any lost kittens who need someone to love. Smile
You are always welcome here.

That's a beautiful story, Roller Boy. I'm so thankful that there are people in the world like you. Only today did I see on the news that two pit bulls, someone's pets, were hanged; someone tied ropes around their necks and threw them over a wood fence. When they showed the scratch marks on the fence from the dogs as they fought for their lives, I had to look away...I felt like I was going to vomit...I still feel sick about it. The owner was awakened at 2am by the sounds of his dogs, but by the time he cut them down, it was too late. They were both under 13 months old.

And only last night did I find out that my friends cousin got high with some of his friends and tortured two cats to death. I didn't want to hear the details.

Did you report that house to the police?

Honey, you are a wonder. And Lucky and Maru like Clopin? Is he brain damaged - can you tell yet?

Roller Boy has a real... special kind of drama in life. The only time I've ever had to rescue a cat and rush it to the vet was when RB was staying over! That poor thing didn't make it - it was very old and sick, and the EVIL owners had just dumped their old family pet beside a busy road, assuming it'd get run over in no time. Given the poor thing was blind and lost, it was very likely! And what an awful way for the cat to die - never mind the traffic accident that would almost certainly be caused by the creature wandering out into a main road. The owners just couldn't be bothered to take it to a vet to be put down. So we did, and let its last moments be respectful and cared for.

How people can be so heartless and have no regard for living creatures I simply don't get. Fortunately there's people like Roller Boy in the world!
Roller Boy

d'oh! Oh, I had almost forgotten that. The poor thing was so frightened, and poor Belle was so upset. I believe in that case, putting the cat to rest was best. You see the poor sweet darling had a terrible painful infection in the eyes, and nothing short of extensive painful surgery and a long tortured recovery would have helped it. So sending it to rest was the best way to let it go.

CLOPIN is FINE!!!! He is on his last week of medicine, and has a vets appointment this comming saturday. Hopefully he will get a clean bill of health. He has plumped up considerably and is now a proper weight, and has TONS of excess energy, and lots of happy purring and kitten licks.

he likes to lick my nose.

As for Lucky, Well He has taken up the roll of Mr. Mom. Literally.
Lucky gives Clopin baths, and sleeps near him, plays with him, and loved the little kitten like his own.

Maru has taken to Clopin at last, she lay with him throughout his fever, and now acts like the scrutinising and fun aunt to him.

she likes to shake her head at Lucky, but I think the three are getting on fine. I am so happy Clopin is feeling better.

THanks to everyone.
RB
