Rep Book FormatHow do you guys format your rep books? Do you tape an entire song and slip it in a plastic sleeve? Do you tape two pages together to create and front and back and individually sleeve those? The former requires you to pull the chart out and hand it to the pianist, which seems to me the right thing to do. The latter means you have to plonk your entire book down in front of the pianist. Any other thoughts or options?Cheers, Wayne |

I know there's another thread about this...
Did you check the "read me" thread at the top of the page? I think it might be up there... Yep! Found it! http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49866&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=rep+book&start=12 Hope that helped! And generally, it's fastest to keep your music in the binder and organized. So "plonking it down" is actually best...Often, a casting director will have you do more than one selection so they can hear different music styles in your voice. In every case, it's good to be prepared for that, as they don't have time to watch you pull your music out and hand it to the pianist between every song! |

You mean that thread that says "Read this before you ask an audition question"? |

in that case, I'd create an additional smaller binder filled with just the music you're likely to use. Generally you're not going to sing 3 inches worth of music. If you still would feel better having all of your music with you, bringing the giant binder along with the more 'pianotop friendly' book is also an option. Just so that in anycase you're covered. |

I see lotsa people do that, bianca. They throw the big binder in their bag with the other obligatory stuff you bring to auds: dance clothes, character shoes, etc etc. But you really have 3" worth of music that you could perform on the spot? That's impressive! I sure don't. Even songs I just sang at an aud 3 months ago I don't rehearse often enough to sing on the spot! My rep book is a mess right now. I thought that taping music together accordion-style was easier for accompanists. But when CDs ask you to sing something else, they are a pain in the ass to find and dig out and flatten. I tried to stay away from putting my music in sheet protectors cuz I couldn't find non-glare sheets and also cuz i was afraid those might be slippery and cause trouble during page turns, but I think for cleanliness sake I'm gonna hafta do that instead. |

I've never had anyone complain about my 3" thick binder...It's arranged in alphabetical order and honestly, non glare sheet protectors don't stick together as easily as paper does in a binder...They actually are easier for the pianist to use...
I've literally had to sing just about everything in that binder in single auditions, too... I say the more prepared you are and the more different styles of music you have available on the spot, the more you'll impress the casting directors...Here, everyone has a 3" binder at all times! LOL! |

So is accordian style taping a "no"? I haven't had any complaints (and to be quite frank ALL my music is taped as such), but I'm not sure if the accompanists might secretly have a vendetta for me |

what is accordian style taping? lol |

I wouldn't do the accordian style taping of your music...you never know when there will be an open window with a breeze coming in, whether the pianist will be in such a hurry he rips your music, etc... |
